What about instant on radar? The cop knows your speed before you are notified he is there and you slow down.

I know here in the San Diego area instant on radar is the norm.

Now, for red light cameras? That shows promise. . .

Tickets for red light runs $341.00. But, how many of us here really run red lights?
Speeding? Sure, who doesn't. But, blazing through red lights? No thanks.

You don't understand how this program really works...

Crapster

My Experience with this application - extremely disappointing.

Who needs to know every place on the planet a cop has been sited - and therefore may be hiding?

I tried Trapster on a 9 hour drive. The constant warnings of potential radar traps quickly became annoying. My passengers grew tired of the constant "Police often hide here" warnings - and were sick of the constant slow down and acceleration as we received warnings.

After 3 hours of nothing but false alarms, as we traveled with silence from trapster, a radar trap gunned us going 80 in a 65. No warning from Trapster. Not a peep - nothing. I got off with a verbal warning from a very nice cop. For the rest of the trip, "Crapster" was the butt of many jokes. I immediately deleted it from my iPhone.

Pure garbage. Save yourself the headache and humiliation...

its not a radar detector..

its not a radar detector..

I did not claim it was one! But your point is important - it's not a radar detector - as such, it's usefulness is limited to say the least. If you really want an application crying wolf at you all the time. Go for it...

i understand that but in your post you stated that there was no warning from trapster.. only a radar detector can give you that type of warning.

Well it's one of those the use makes the app

things on my drive today I know most the regular hiding spots and yes that's where it warned and no police today but next day who knows all were regular spots. that if one didn't know they probably get a ticket. best advice for sure would be don't speed. ;) but like it was said there are allot of hills and turns where they drop the speed with one sign you miss it your screwed. also I got a push tonight warning of a actual spot a police car had been spotted and and waiting! little is perfect in this world lol still say the price is right lol.

^ I too used this tonight for the first time. I reported a speed trap and also was notified of a cop placed on the side of the road. Looking at the map I would have said that three people reported this cop on the side of the road ... and he had already nailed someone.

If this app weren't free I would say it was well worth the money.

So far I've only used it while on the couch driving a remote but it seems like people update it very regularly ............. ?

It also depends if you live in an area where there are a lot of red-light cameras and/or speed cameras. There are many of these in the Maryland and DC area and these don't change. This app would be very useful in reminding someone to slow down in these situations. For me, my wife received a speed ticket 3X by the same speed camera (I know, that's retarded). For her, this would be very useful.

This would be a killer app if it included directions and/or traffic alerts.

BEWARE: I gave this app my phone number so I can setup an account with it and now I am all the sudden getting soliciting calls. The app was crap anyways. I deleted it after the first day. Glad it didn't cost anything.

Trapster has personally saved me two tickets since I've been using it. Both times I got the 'police often hide here' well in advance, slowed down and passed an active speed trap while going a safe speed. I don't excessively speed but I do go over the limit and sometimes just outside of the 10mph 'buffer' that most jurisdictions seem to give.

It's not for the areas you travel regularly and you know all of the traps - it's for those unfamiliar areas and helps immensely. That being said, you still can't be an idiot and go 80mph in a 55 zone with reckless abandon. But if you do see an active trap -report it.

And for the tax collectors, a.k.a speed cameras, this is your best weapon.

EDIT: Here's the original article cited.

Meh, here's an idea. Slow down, save fuel, save money, and enjoy the ride.

Where did you enter the phone number? I can't find a place to enter it anywhere.
