I've been wondering about the ban on books and magazines, too.....only thing I could think of would be that paper goods are highly flammable and therefore would serve to catch fire once the initial item were ignited/detonated. ?? Or, yes, maybe there is a way of permeating paper with some special liquid. ??

A thought occurs to me about using Pelican or Halliburton cases: they scream, "EXPENSIVE & VALUABLE ELECTRONICS INSIDE!!!!" and therefore might be more susceptible to theft.

Let's all hope that things calm down and that the carry-on regulations do not remain so restrictive forever.

Pretty much, unfortunately, which is why I think a little self-serve kiosk like an ATM to buy electronics insurance for checked bags will be a money maker. :)
