I also think I should have my music backed up to an external drive. I use time machine on my Mac and iTunes should be in it. If I do give Apple Music a try, I should be able to delete the iTunes library on my Mac and copy the time machine backup to where I deleted my local library. I think that is how it should work. Do u buy music from iTunes or not since you have Apple Music? It would be pointless to buy music from iTunes if you have Apple Music. I read somewhere that some people still buy music from iTunes even though they have an Apple Music subscription because they think that Apple could pull any album or song off of Apple Music at any time. What are your thoughts?[

I don't buy music on iTunes anymore, but I honestly haven't bought much music on iTunes for the past 4 or 5 years anyway (again, I don't claim to be the typical iTunes customer or AM subscriber--just describing my use case in the event anyone else is like me). I got to a point where I was listening to my favorite stuff that I already owned and mixing in podcasts and Pandora. I found some albums I really liked during the AM trial period (stuff I missed out on over the past half decade) and decided I could subscribe to AM for 6 months and continue to listen to those while I discover other stuff I like for the same price I would pay to buy those albums. I suppose you could always buy an album you HAD to have if it got pulled from AM.

I rarely by music from iTunes. I usually buy my music from Google Play or Amazon. I prefer to purchase music outside of Apple's ecosystem and import it in.

Another thing that is holding me back from trying AM is that your $10 is just for streaming and it isn't like you actually own anything in the end if you decide to unsubscribe after a year. I have mixed thoughts on Apple Music and am wondering what some of you guys have done, if you have tried it or not and what you recommend that I should do. I don't want the free trial to mess up my iTunes purchases or imported CDs. Just tell me your experience with Apple Music and any responses would be greatly appreciated.

Your points are valid but falls short of what a streaming service is... If u go to Spotify for example, u wouldn't own them either. Google, or any.

I have AM and it has its issues... Spotify is better, but the only reason why i'm putting up with issues with Apple is because the content is there i want.. Yes, even everyday i must go to Apple live chat just to get re-released fix, since playlists doesn't handle this well, as u must modify name to keep both. I found that out with Summer Rain - EP - Slinkee Mix.. The single appears twice on AM, yet if only adds one to playlists with doubled up songs from the second.

Spotify doesn't have the stuff i'm after and Apple music does... Interface wise, Apple needs to do better with searching... I would like to be able to see how many albums of Nightcore i have in my playlist in one page without having to open each album in AM catalog just to check. For some reason time duration are slightly off between devices..

e.g a track is 4:09 on iOS, but that same track in your playlist on Mac is 4:07

Anyone know why that would be ? if exactly the same song, so shouldn't be the same duration ?

I think there is still stuff Apple still need do, but to me content is everything, even if i must go through all the issues.

Well just to add my two cents I've had Apple Music since launch and it hasn't messed up my library. Nor has it added DRM to my iTunes purchased or CD ripped tracks either. I do suggest backing up your library as others have suggested as well. Give it a try! Just remember to turn off automatic subscription renewal.

So none of your purchased tracks or iTunes purchases were affected or changed when you subscribed to Apple Music? I use time machine and it should be backing up my whole computer so I should be fine backing up to time machine and then enabling Apple Music? Are you pretty satisfied with Apple Music?

Yes, none of my purchased tracks through iTunes or elsewhere were affected - I should say I've never used iTunes match nor the iCloud library for my music.

Yes, back up with Time Machine - it's something to do automatically anyway.

Yes so far it's pretty good - little and bigger bugs to fix - still buy the music I really like.
