Hi guys,

I own an iPhone 6s and eversince I updated the ios from 12.4.1 to ios 13, two things happened :

1. I started to loose the ability to receive phone calls while using the wifi call option (which is my only option if I want to make and receive phone calls since I live in an area where no signal comes through).
2. The battery drains very quickly, even during the night: looking at the battery analysis it can only come from the fact that my phone keeps looking for a signal (Internet or Roger's signal I'm guessing cuz bluetooth, icloud and gps are shut down)

So I though I'm just going to downgrade the IOS back to 12.4.1. I found many simple tutorials online to do so.
I have backed up all my stuff and erased everything on my phone to start from scratch. My itunes and Windows are all updated, I even shut down the anti virus and firewall. I plug my phone with an original Apple cord, launch itunes, select my phone and shift click on Restore which gives me the opportunity to select the file I have downloaded (iPhone_4.7_12.4.1_16G102_Restore)

First thing that happened : I got a 3194 error message after the file was extracted. So I read all about it, modified the "hosts" file by adding the last line (74.208.105.171 gs.apple.com) which was completely absent from the original hosts file.

I try again, and now get a 3600 error message!! Everything I read about this error code tells me that I have already tried everything (updating itunes and Windows, using original apple cable, turn off anti virus and firewall etc...).

I am so mad, I spent way too many hours just trying to get my iphone back to a state where it allows me to simply receive phone calls, it's ridiculous!! I even spoke with Apple and Rogers about the problem with the new ios and my wifi calls no longer working, they have no idea what is happening!

Maybe none of this is working on itunes because I have multiple accounts? Maybe there is another app than itunes to restore an iphone? My husband's phone and mine are both on the same computer, we have to shift click i tunes evertyime to select our own librairy... Could that be the problem?
Otherwise can someone from a genius bar do a clean downgrade to ios 12.4.1??

Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks
Kim

Did you save the SHSH blobs? If you didn't, you are totally out of luck, Apple dropped the support for all iOS 12 versions few days ago. There is only support for devices unable to run iOS 13, and your 6S doesn't qualify for that.

Yes, it’s not possible to downgrade once the period has been closed by Apple.
I could not comment for BLOB image usage (though I did saving few years back) since I haven’t tried it.

I have no idea what SHSH blobs means so I guess I did'nt save it! 😥

Stellar... a little bit of empathy would be nice! Seriously, put yourself in my pants, you can no longer make or receive phone calls with your iphone because of these error messsages in itunes. Wouldn't you try to solve these error messages? Just throw the iphone in the garbage after 15 minutes of posting a thread and someone tells you to give up?
Geez

Oh and by the way my iphone is not and has never been jailbroken

Those error messages in iTunes are there because there is no possibility anymore to go back to 12.4.2. Apple simply stopped signing it and that story is over for you...sadly forever. So all what is left for you now is to try to do a restore and setup as new. If that doesn't help, then I am afraid you have a hardware problem.

Download IPSW 13.1.2 for your phone and with SHIFT+RESTORE option, point to the downloaded file and hope for the best :). In case you don't know how, google it....there are many tutorials there how to do it.

Oh I get it now... thanks for explaining it this way. I didnt know that Apple were signing anything on these ipsw files.
I'm currently downloading the ipsw for the ios 13.1.2 and will thy to install it the way you suggested, but I doubt this is going change anything since I already have that ios installed... but will try in couple of minutes.

Isn't there another app like itunes that would permit the installation of the 12.4.1 file without going through the apple signing situation?

For iOS 13 - Connect to iTunes and choose to Restore without backup. That will wipe your device and install a clean image.

Obviously take a backup if you want to but you must restore to get a clean build.
will try that if the previous suggestion by bbrks doesnt work

Apple doesn't sign 12.4.1 anymore. You chose the right method (by holding down SHIFT+RESTORE, and then selecting your 12.4.1 IPSW for your device). You get the 3194 error because iTunes checks the restore process with Apple's servers if you choose your own IPSW. If you would select the 13.1.2 IPSW for example, the restore would be possible.

Please see: https://ipsw.me/iPhone8,1

Unchecked Versions you cannot downgrade to. Only the signed ones are possible. Hope this helps.

I am sorry to break this to you, but there is no way of downgrading - Apple needs to allow it by signing the IPSW. Genius Bar won't and can't help you and AFAIK there is no other method or tool, please do not try to restore with jailbreak software or something else - it could brick your phone (meaning that you can't use it anymore since it won't turn on anymore because of broken firmware). Sorry, again, Apple is very strict when it comes to their software.

Tried to restore with 13.1.2 file i get the s=exact same error message i got when trying to install 12.4.1 (error 3600)

so that damn 3600 error message wasnt caused by the "unsigned 12.4.1 ipsw file! Even the most recent one gives me that message

I guess it's because you edited the hosts file. That may result in the 3600 error. Because iTunes couldn't contact the Apple server.

With the original hosts file (unedited), you will get the 3694 error when restoring to 12.4.1 and no error when restoring to 13.1.2.

Would a DFU restore have the same problem?

I think so. Doesn't matter if you put your device into Recovery Mode or DFU mode first. iTunes will always check the Signing Status of the IPSW. There is no real method of downgrading.

The only way to go back to an unsigned version is currently to dual-boot a jailbroken 32-bit iPhone. Which is why i have been able to downgrade my jailbroken 10.3.4 iPhone 5 to 6.1.4. It's a dual boot between 10.3.4 and 6.1.4 (or any other firmware released for the iPhone 5). SHSH blob method will also work if you saved your blobs. I don't even know if people do this these days, this was popular in the iPhone 4 days.

But dual-booting is no real downgrade, first you'll need a now unsupported 32 bit iPhone (2G, 3G, 3GS, 4, 4s, 5) and it needs to be jailbroken, and then you are able to create a second partition with a firmware of your choice using a Cydia tweak like CoolBooter. A 6s is jailbreakable, but there is no Jailbreak for iOS 13 and CoolBooter doesn't work on current 64-bit chipsets. (A7 and up). Maybe checkm8 will enable 64-bit dual-booting or downgrades in the future.

Kim,

I believe you are on the way to a great working device. The issues come from corruption in the system partition, sadly as most of us (me included) are not jailbroken (I would never do that as I value my security over control) you can only rebuild the system partition on the path you are now on.

Logically this path will work for you will have a pristine system partition! 🙂

I just installed ios 13.2.1 by restoring from the ipsw i have donwloaded. In itunes it set it up as a new iphone. so the phone was completely empty. I activated the wifi call option and unfortunately still no stability with the wifi call signal. It sucks cause it never happened with ios 12.4.1 nor any previous version of ios. I dont necessarely want to downgrade but i do want that damn wifi call optionto run smoothly liek it used to!!!

Kim,

I'm on the latest 13 as well (yes OMG it's buggy) and my WiFi calling is rock solid. have you tried to reboot your router/gateway, AP?

Then if you are able give priority in your router please do for your device (using the MAC id of your iPhone) hopefully this will help!

Sorry, didn't mean to suggest you could end-run unsigned .ipsw issues with a DFU restore. I mis-read the posts above suggesting to me (reading on a phone) that the OP's device might be bricked.

I don't have that problem, but the forums here are filled with threads about the various bugs still plaguing iOS 13. Sympathies.

Looks like the OP was able to perform a full restore to 13.1.2, but not to 12.4.1. I also suggest a restore, maybe that helps with the problems that the OP has with her phone. I would be careful not to brick the phone when trying to downgrade to 12.4.1.

I ran into this problem today morning realising my phone was suddenly upgraded to 13.3.1!
My battery was on 1% and I put phone to charge.
It should NEVER happen during night, without user consent prior to that! what in situation when I have no latest backup?

I am going to write to Apple support, I know I am out of luck but in such case there should make 12.4.1 signed ipsw generated for me

How do I clean install ios 12.4.1?
Understand you very well, man. Once I mailed Tim Cook about downgrading to iOS 7 on iPhone 4S. No reply of course. Since that time my 4S keeps its place at bookshelf.

Indeed, try install 13.4? 13.3.1 is the worst OS from 13.x branch, people complaining a lot. I suppose, they will implement better fixes in 13.4.x (or, if not, you will need a new phone, yeah :(
