iPad Pro Trying to update to iPad OS 14 iTunes giving Error 4000 ?

Hi Guys,

I am trying to update to iPad OS 14 using iTunes on my Window Computer. iTunes is already on the latest version which is 12.10.9.3 I have downloaded the iPad OS 14 but when iTunes tries to install it on the device I get an error Code 4000.

What does it mean ? What should I do ?

Please advise guys !

Do you have a second computer around to test it with? If it works there that would at least point you to the computer or iPad for further troubleshooting.

Unfortunately No I only have one computer. Even when I googled for the Error Code it mostly says It could be an outdated iTunes or installation problem. But none of is the case with me so I dont know where else to look for ?

when trying to update to iPad OS 14 it performed some steps which included backing up the iPad, So only when it reached a point where it said installing the Update now on the device when this Error 4000 came up. So It came in absolute last stages.

Freaking super annoying! I think re-installing iTunes is a step to consider. I assume you rebooted the computer, did another check for updates, different cable and USB port maybe.

Yes thats what I am doing. Deleted iTunes and Now Re-installing it.

I only wonder if I will have to re download iPad OS 14 which I had already downloaded yesterday and was just waiting for itunes to install it on my device.

The solution is rather simple. Although there are many reasons for error 4000, including a bad cable - in this case there is a problem with updating via Windows 10's current version of iTunes and it is related to having a pass code and lock screen. Temporarily disable 1) your device pass code 2) screen autolock and try again. This solved my problem on 3 separate iOS devices. Once updated via Win10 iTunes, I simply turned my device pass codes and autolock back on.

Still not success reinstalled iTunes completely. Still giving me the same error.

The version of Windows 7 or 10 should not matter. Deactivate your pass code and lock screen, plug in your device and then try and update.
