I found an alternative to tunein radio and it's called simply radio . It has a nice ios7 interface and best of all, no ads and it's free right now on the App Store.

Simply Radio lacks the ability to search for stations.

In a digital era, it's stupid to have to know the frequency of a digital radio station!

Still not getting ads, either through banners or audio ads at the beginning of the streaming. I have a 4S, and I limit Limit Ad Tracking ON - perhaps this makes a difference?

Given that you get one refund only (unless the policy has changed), I would not bother as it's 99¢.

Price is not the point, it's the principle of the matter.

Some might taking it lying down, but whether it's £0.69 or £69, I'm not going to bent over by money grabbing scumbags who value advertising revenue over their paying customers.

you dont have to search for stations, u just press the forward icon >> or backward << and it will auto direct you to the radio stations.

Hello,

Thank you for contacting us. I apologize that you are now receiving ads having purchased TuneIn Radio Pro before ads were included.

I am able to disable ads for you going forward. To do so, I'll need you to create a TuneIn account. Once I have that account information, I'll let you know once I've disabled ads for your device.

Thank you for your patience.

Hello,

Thanks for the information. I've disabled ads for your device. To complete the process, force quit and re-load TuneIn Radio Pro.

Please let me know if there's anything else I can help you with.

Sincerely,

Michelle

The description of TuneIn Pro now says you'll get ads. Anyone who bought before version 5.0 will remain ad-free.

I noticed it now sells for $6.99? Was only $0.99 when I bought it!

Pretty disgusting to charge that much and cover it in ads. Money grabbing arseholes. It's a quick grab for money and implies they don't care about bad reviews, they want the cash.

I'll keep using it for now, seeing as I paid $0.99 for it, and I don't have ads (yet).

Are there any good alternatives to this app? I no longer want this app by a scumbag company on my phone.

Must we deal with ads everywhere? I know devs have to make a living, but this is a PAID APP! What.. the.. fuuuu...??!

I just updated to 5.0.1 Pro version, I now have ads. And someone said the streams had audio ads.. no TuneIn added those as well, but the last update was supposed to fix that for people who had older versions. I uninstalled it from my phone to test, and when I installed it back again, it had the ads. So I guess if you don't uninstall, you can go ad-free.

What ****ing **** balls for doing this. I already contacted Apple for a refund. TuneIn broke the terms I agree to when I bought this app. I never agreed to pay for ads.

****ers.

How is this possible? I didn't know developers had the ability to change a user's app experience based on the date he/she purchased it.

What would happen if you purchased the app before version 5.0 but then downloaded it on a new device after version 5.0? How would TuneIn know that the app on the new device was purchased before version 5.0?

Must use your Apple ID to determine because I bought this back when I had an iPhone 4 and I'm on an iPhone 5 now.

The latest update says that if you bought it recently for 99¢ you will have ads. I got it long ago, when it came out, for 99¢ but since I had it at version 1.0, I do not have ads.

I saw the reviews in the app store complaining about the ads. I don't usually look at the screen when I am using the app, so I am going to pay attention now.

I bought the app back with version 2.2, used the free version before that and only upgraded to get rid of ads. I'd rather not have ads, but looking at the business model, if they didn't have ads they would be making all their money from the free users so I understand. Maybe the free version should have spoken/video ads like iHeartRadio does. If recording is the only difference between free and pro they need to change their business model.

The free version has always had ads, that's how they made their money from it. The paid version was ad free and the cost of the app covered their development costs.

Now they're money grabbing scumbags and are putting ads into a paid version of an app. I think that's very unethical.

I understand that, I used the free version for a couple of months before using the paid version....it's the reason I bought the paid version. I if you like your ad free version and want to keep, you should be allowed, period. At least grandfathered somehow. I also think there should be more to separate the free and paid version, besides "recording".

At least grandfathered somehow.

That's what they're doing - those who bought it prior to 5.0 will not have ads. It was a 'bug' that some people who bought it prior did get ads and 5.0.1 was supposed to fix that.

Bit of a mess they've got themselves into.

I bought it a few years ago too and now have ads. I emailed them on Friday but just an automated reply so far.

Just got my reply lol. Coincidence?

Years of regular use of this paid app ad-free and now I'm required to hear about toy stores or Black Friday if I want to hear the news? I'm done with this shady app and will blog, FB, and tweet about it. I'd appreciate recs on replacement.

I bought the app in 2010 lol and now got ads. This is wrong. Apple should pull their apps from the store until they saw reason.

TuneIn Radio Pro - Ad Fix

If you had a previous version of TuneIn Radio Pro (ad free) you can restore it with a time machine backup. First delete version 5 from iTunes and your phone. In the Mobile Applications folder (finder) in iTunes open time machine and go back a few months before the update. Restore version 4.2 to the Mobile Applications folder, load it back on your device via iTunes, and update. If you're successful you with have an ad free version of 5 pro

Time Machine is your friend

Thanks OP for bringing this up. I'm just recently back to IOS a few days ago after a year and a half with Android and starting to reinstall my apps now from iCloud. I paid for TuneIn Pro a couple of years ago but yep, the new version of Pro that installed definitely has the ads.

I've emailed TuneIn to get this fixed but I have to say, TuneIn, this is a seriously classless move on your part. NOT impressed and I will be switching radio apps if this is not fixed asap.

I'm adding to this 2013 thread as I've been having a advert issue recently on iOS9.3.1, with a particular Radio app, mentioning no names.

have any MacRumors-ists seen these sort of interstitial (pop-over) adverts - obviously fake "YOU HAVE VIRUS" or "YOU HAVE WON $$$" on any other apps within the Apple ecosphere?

I'm attaching some iPhone screengrabs of the 'attacks' - I obfuscated the embedded URLs just in case they are evil , don't want any malware to spread through this vector, I've no idea what was supposed to happen when I clicked the blue OK button on the interstitial badvert, as I just turned off my phone.

I found these personally to be deceptive and disruptive adverts, but despite a chat with Apple & emails with the Radio app - I haven't understood how pervasive these sort of attacks are?

(Yes, i have the paid for 'old' version of whichever radio App I'm using and I'm not supposed to see any at all, never mind bad ones!)

In (bad) Italian for fun, but I'm sure you'll understand it says "that Safari on my device has a virus and I have to click OK to learn how to remove it. . . . "

has anyone else seen these, they have arrived in the last 2 weeks. . .

ciao , David
