Anyone figure out how to do this? I use the left side of the screen to mouse my cursor out of the way for viewing the page. Now I have to leave it just off the edge which requires a non-zero level of thought.

Unfortunately, nothing obvious disables this bugged behavior. Stupid Apple.

OMG - yes! This is so annoying. I also trained myself to automatically throw my mouse to the left to read the site but still be able to scroll, and now every time I do it the sidebar comes up and I can only scroll in that. Why would they not let you disable this!? I already have a sidebar button on my toolbar.

There should be a disable option. It's a serious bug to not include an option to disable this irritating eyesore.

No, this is not a bug. It is an oversight on Apple's part to not include an option to disable this.

This feature would be a bug if, for example, the cursor is moved away from the edge and the bookmarks still show.

No it's not. A bug is an error in code. One, that would cause Safari to crash or freeze or lag or act erroneously. Not including an option you would like to have is not, has never been and never will be "a bug".

Not everything that bugs you is a bug.

Sure it is a bug. Trying to argue otherwise is silly when I can be scrolling the screen and if I hit the left edge accidentally then a stupid window slides in to take focus and confuse the user. That it can't be turned off makes it a high priority bug.

The sidebar only appears after a second or so. That’s not accidental anymore and it’s equally easy to just move your pointer away. It’s at best a design oversight, certainly not a bug. This is how it is supposed to work. It’s silly to argue the semantics, we know that you don’t like it and no, there is no way to turn it off presently.

Its only a bug if the code doesn't do something it should in my book..
This is just a very poor design, i see no logical way to disable it.
Who the hell at apple thought this was a good idea.

Very disappointed..

What is a bug to you is a very useful feature to someone else. What you see as a solution is someone else's "irritating eye sores". This is not a bug due to the simple fact that the functionality behaves exactly as it should. The only difference here is that you disagree with the behaviour Apple thought out which is something completely different. The same applies to the term "oversight". Oversight means that you didn't see a certain aspect of the behaviour. We don't know if this is the case. Apple might have seen the issue and decided that it is not a problem. It's a decision making style you see everyday in nearly every business and outside businesses.

So no, this is definitely not a bug nor a design flaw, oversight, etc. The only thing this is, is behaviour you don't like.

Another thing to note is that this forum is not Apple's issue tracking/feedback system. If you want them to fix the "irritating eye sores" then posting here is the very last thing that will get it sorted. You need to send in feedback. Apple now includes the feedback assistant with El Capitan (you can find in Applications > Utilities). Use it because that's exactly what it is for!
