Its a bug, plain and simple, either in Apple TV or iTunes (both were simultaneously updated, so I cannot say which update caused the problem). But I have used iTunes and Apple TV as the basis for my media hub for years. I have thousands of TV shows, music and movies, a mix of iTunes and self-ripped. I have the entire library meticulously configured, with each metadata field matching, both in content and style, for every single entry. Now, suddenly, it stopped sorting correctly after the update(s). I have had first gen and second gen Apple TV's, running a host of different versions of the OS. This is the first time that the TV shows went out of order like this.

On the ATV maybe but I recall this happening before with iOS.
One of the first updates after the 3rd generation Touch was released caused all of the TV shows to go out of order.
Took them a few weeks before they pushed out an other update that finally fixed it.

its a bug in 10.6 as people have responded that they have had multiple apple tv 2 and they updated one and not the other and the one not updated the tv order is messed up also

Thank goodness for this thread. I also have thousands of shows under Comuters/myMini/TV Shows on my ATV2. This has nothing to do with tagging. It is the list of the "TV Shows" itself that is now appearing with entries displayed randomly.

Yes, the episodes UNDER a given Show appear in reverse order (unless explicitly tagged) -- that was a bother, but okay ... could live with it. Tagging was the fix for that but this is not tagging since it has to do with the value in the "Shows" field itself.

Last night (after updating iTunes to 10.6) the TV Show names are all jumbled when viewed under the "By Show" tab. For example, "House" used to come after "GoodWife" -- now, in my list of HUNDREDS of Shows, there is no sense to the order.

At least I didn't burn too much time trying to figure out if it was something I'd done to shoot myself in the foot. Guess I have to wait for that fix/update -- hopefully, not too long!!!

Thank goodness it's not just me. I'd been wondering what I did wrong.

Sloppy of Apple not to have spotted it sooner (or fixed it).

Not much to add except happening for me also under new version of iTunes.

Only thing I can tell is that it actually doesn't seem that random. For me at least they are based on the date of when I added them to iTunes. Not the date of airing or purchased or anything - but the most recent item that I've added to iTunes is listed last, one before that is listed 2nd to last, etc. seems pretty consistent.

However just checked tv shows on iPad using home sharing and oh my god....now that is a complete mess and super chaotic.

There is a large discussion of this in the Apple Discussions area -- up to nine pages and growing.

And if you take a look at page 8 you'll see the report of an exchange one poster had with an Apple person.
Why do people have to be such jerks in letters to technical support? The guy is just trying to do his job and he has to read all these foul-tempered emails all day... I really feel sorry for him.

Apple has had this problem before and always fixed it before. Yes, it's an annoying issue, but give them more than a few days to fix the bug.

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; CPU iPhone OS 5_1 like Mac OS X) AppleWebKit/534.46 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/5.1 Mobile/9B176 Safari/7534.48.3)

The only problem that I have had so far is after redownloading the 1080p version of doctor who season 6 pt1 and pt2 it combines them together in the episode page. Before the 1080p redownload both pt1 and pt2 had there own cover art and were seperate selectable tv seasons. The weird thing is that under "get info" it still shows the different cover art between pt1 and pt2 and under the season tab of get info it says season 6 pt1 and season 6 pt2 appropriately, but on the iTunes episodes screen it says just season 6 for both parts and uses the same cover art. These aren't rips they are purchases from iTunes. It's not a big deal, just hoping there's a way to fix it.
