The “2 minutes” happened to me as well…I went off and did some work, came back and it was completed. It appears to show the “2 minute” screen instead of the “updating” screen. Either way it took a bit but was fine
I tried it again later and it worked. I had tried it multiple times at first and even left it alone for a while too.

Automatic subtitles when you skip backwards. I always loved the “what did they say?” feature but this new way just feels so right. It makes you wonder why it didn’t always work this way.

Yet another reason I won’t subscribe to anything that doesn’t integrate with the TV app.

Netflix doesn't integrate with the tv app but will still support this feature so I am not sure what you mean by that statement.

Doesn’t need to support the TV app, just needs to be using the native video player.

In most cases though black bars aren’t included in the video, it’s the TV that adds the black bars to fill the space if the video ratio differs from the screen ratio.
I’d be very surprised if you didn’t still get black bars on content that differs in ratio.
On the bluray disc, every frame is stored at 1980x1080, so movies with other aspect ratios, indeed are encoded with black bars in the frame.

Watching House Of The Dragon and no getting Dolby Vision/Atmos output since updating to tvOS 18 in the HBO max app. Can anyone else confirm?

Anyone install Beta 2?
I didn't know there was a Beta 2... I will check when I get home. However, I must be on Beta 2 as I checked for updates Saturday and it stated "you are up to date".

Everything works fine with the occasional blip in:

--Lilly Player (Sometime the "back" button does not respond---reboot required)
--Paramount (still) does not load properly. (show icons only 50% load)

Other than that everything else works.

Looks like Beta 3 is out for Apple TV:

I'm guessing it's not that simple as having tested all my streaming apps only AppleTV+ supports the auto subtitles on both skipping backwards and muting.

But then this is of course just beta 3 of tvOS 18 isn’t it so certain functionally between apps may be lacking at this current time.
Also whatever you’re watching has to have subtitles available in the video file in the first place.

On tvOS 17 and pressing the mic button and saying “What did they say” works on some apps I’ve tried that use the native player.
Netflix and UKTV play are two examples of apps that use the native player and you get those 10 seconds of subs.

The first couple of betas had a real issue to watch the beginning of the show While it was still currently being recorded on DIRECTV streaming app, but DIRECTV fixed it on their end or this latest beta fixed it working good now.
