Loren needs to at least release Tweetie for Mac 2.0. People BOUGHT the MacHeist package a few weeks ago largely due to the inclusion of Tweetie and the promise of getting the pre-public beta of 2.0. Not releasing it now would be disgusting on his part. With that said, I absolutely do not expect to see Tweetie 2.0 for Mac.

Congrats on shilling people out of money, Loren. Hope Twitter destroys your app like Brizzly killed Birdfeed.

Twitter won't ruin it. They have been very good with keeping what they do pleasurable for their users, and not messing it up like facebook.

And Loren is now working for them so no doubt he'll have a big say in what they do with it.

Good move from twitter I say.

if thats the case, im going to kill my twitter account. I dont like being forced into using one app. I have used several apps and prefer twittlator. As soon as I get the notice that I must use their app, im gone.

rant off :p

whats the point in that? bit ott

i doubt theyll make u use their app. but using an official app is so much nicer than using a third party.

Good to see a developer who puts a lot of attention into his work get to this level. Hopefully he maintains a good amount of control over where the projects go.

..And I can't blame him for doing it. Taking up twitter on the offer was a no brainer. If he didin't do it, they'd buy another client, and his app would be killed by it, which is what will probably happen with the other clients in the coming months.

Do macHeist nanoBundle 2 purchasers still get access to the Tweetie 2 beta for mac and a free copy of Tweetie 2 for mac?

Yes, Tweetie 2 for Mac (including the beta) is still on its way.

From Loren:
Hey all - first of all I apologize for any confusion, things have been a bit crazy! I just want to says I'm blasting through the todo list to get a beta put together as fast as I can, the Mac UI stuff I've been prototyping is just too cool to have anything else happen to it. Sorry for keeping it short, gotta get back to coding!

I really really want tweetie 2 just Drop the price allready i gaurantee it will be on the top of the app store everywhere.:D

You can use them all for now…All of these apps will be dead in the future on on the mobile or desktop. Twitter is going to close these API's so they can increase their value.

Think of it as Apple doing the same on the iPhone OS. They have essentially shut off advertising on the iPhone OS with iAds.

EDIT: From here on out do not ever pay for a Twitter client.

any links or proof to back up these claims, as i have heard no such thing and this just sounds like FUD.

all twitter is trying to do with this is make it easier for people to find some sort of official app rather than trying to guess at what they should use or where to start off. makes sense, and should have been done from day one.

and this is great news for Atebits. very happy for them.

I cant believe that twitter would completely kill the API's. They are having a developers conference right now. But i also do think that many people are confused by twitter because there are so many options for a twitter client. If they are able to have controlled development of twitter clients, they could impose requirements that will make all the clients more uniform and not so confusing. I just hope they don't cripple the functionality

Dunno 'bout others, but I still prefer Twitterrific's UI to Tweetie's.

It's like Apple offering a built-in Clock app, yet still, there are loads of people getting paid Clock apps. LOL

Trust me, it's gonna be really hard for Twitter to compete with Iconfactory in the UI department.

I don't know what is going on but I was having problems getting new tweets over wi-fi with SimplyTweet. So I then purchased Tweetie, and I am having the same problem. It will not load tweets when using wi-fi. It works fine when I am using 3G.

What could be the issue with this?
