You're suppose to switch the insert. The second insert is for the shell cases and Apple case.

Just bought the iPad Book Arc and a Belkin Grip Vue and I'm not having any trouble using both together. Not sure what all the complaints are about the Book Arc not compatible with cases...

Here is a pic to show how well it works.

QC issues with BookArc?

I just got mine and like it a lot apart from it having a really sharp metal burr along the front edge. In addition, the corners are not rounded but a series of angles that suggest it was machined in a bit of a hurry.

Could be a QC issue due to high demand - I have asked for a replacement and am willing to give them the benefit of the doubt because otherwise, this thing is great.

One minor criticism (echoing the iLounge review) is that the alternative insert for case-enclosed iPads holds the iPad vertically - not ideal for viewing. 12South need to come up with a wider version of their standard insert that allows some lay-back rather than just a wider slot.

Seems like a cool company with a good product. I'm hopeful they will fix the
issue for me.

iv'e heard that 12south are updating the silicone inserts. When will they be available I don't know..

I messed with one of these in the Apple Store. I had about 5 employees all experimenting with me because they didn't know whether to recommend it. After we were done, they all agreed that it SUCKED!

It didn't work well at all with or without the Apple Case. With the Case, it was 100% useless even though it advertises that it will work with a case, but regardless of which insert we put in, the iPad wanted to fall forward (glass direction!).

Then without the case, it was still just too stiff and unwieldy. I decided that just leaving my iPad in a case and using the case to set it up is more effective.

By design it seems more like a novelty than a useful stand for the iPad. It's a shame too because generally speaking the company makes good stuff (love their ACD shelf).

They are working on another insert to better accommodate a skin.

I was told they will send that 3rd insert to everyone that buys the stand. Free of charge , just contact them with shipping address.

Very nice setup you got there :)

Thanks :) Usually my iPhone would be in the dock but I had to use it to take the picture so I threw the nano in there.

Were you putting the iPad in the stand correctly? When you want to dock it straight up and down the screen has to face the "12" logo or it wants to lean forward. When you want it to slant back for a better viewing angle the screen should be facing away from the "12" logo. I haven't tried it with a case because mine isn't here yet but based on the youtube videos I watched it looks like there's a design flaw there.

I would agree unless you are using a wireless keyboard or just watching a video. Trying to type with the on screen keyboard with this stand would be very difficult which is why I ordered the Apple Wireless Keyboard with it.

Overall I'd give it a 3.7 out of 5 stars because you need a keyboard to make it functional. Other than that it looks good and does it's job of holding the iPad very well.

If I remember right, we set it both directions and it behaved the same...
(I could be remembering incorrectly though)

The packaging and the product were very Apple-like... it was well presented, but the execution just fell short. All of us Apple geeks were messing with it and moving it all around with no luck. I was glad I didn't get it before trying.

If yours works, awesome. :apple: I just couldn't get this one to work.

costs more to send to the UK than to buy

You gotta love these US companies who can't see past their state line

Obviously they can see past the state line if they are offering to send it to the UK. Duh! (Apparently, not maybe).

The fact you don't like the price to get it to you is something you should take up with the shipping service -- just as if you don't like a companies price you should consider the VAT that is baked in and take it up with your MP.

lol...here we go again....I order a fair bit from the US and it could be sent USPS or similar for a fraction of the price! I don't really need a stand on 3 day international priority!!

Anyway...they replied to me saying the UK Apple store should sell it at some point,

still looking for a decent stand UK side at this point...theres nothing but rubbish on eBay!

I have the BookArc stand, and my iPad wears the Belkin Vue case. Essentially this combo is unworkable and the BookArc is now an expensive paperweight.

It does fit in without the inserts, but it sits at an almost vertical angle that doesn't work for viewing.

I picked up a couple of $2 clear plastic plate stands, put rubber feet on them, and they work perfectly AND they fold up for putting in a bag.

Really disappointing, but that's the early adopter tax at work. =)

Update:

I got a reply from their support within 24 hours of emailing them: they are working on the new inserts as someone commented above and will mail them out. If you have one, make sure you contact them and send your shipping address.

Nice to see a company step up and deal with a challenge like this.

Agreed , it's a bit over priced but they are doing the right thing as far as resolving the issue and taking care of their customers. Big plus in my book.

I love the design , and just may buy one after speaking with their CS.

Excellent response from 12South support

I agree with the previous poster regarding the quality of 12South's customer support.

I posted earlier about some sharp burrs on my BookArc. 12South responded promptly to my email and have sent a replacement by 2 day air with a return label for the original unit - These guys seem to be a quality outfit that are committed to maintaining a good relationship with their customers.

I still like the stand - a slight rethink of the inserts and it would be perfect.
