I'm having the exact same issue: Dual 20" or single 23".

According to my calculations, (is this pathetic or what ;) ) the dual 20" will not only give you about 1.22 million more pixels, they will also be more bang for the buck. (2520 pixels/dollar as opposed to 2094.54 pixels/dollar.)

In any case, the dual screen setup also works better for me, considering I'm in video editing. (That said, I'd still probably go for a single 30" over the dual 20", but that's a bit out of the question.) As to Dual 20" vs. Single 23"....I'll go for the dual monitor setup.

Hopefully that has some form of significance to you. I like to feel helpful. ;) :D

23s and 30s are color accurate, 20s are not. if you're heavily multitasking and it would be good to have the extra screen space or one for work one for reference, I'd say the two twenties, but if it's anything color related, if it will be showing movies, or if it will be used for gaming, go with the 23.

I agree, I think it all depends what type of work you're going to do. Some types of work are more conducive to having dual displays, while other types of work are better done with one nice big display. Give us a better idea of what you'll be using it/them work and that will help.

Cheers guys you are being a great help.
None of my local resellers have both on display so it’s hard 
I will be using it for everything from corporate design to publication design to come light cad work so in a nut shell graphic design.

It will be going with my quad once I order it but I’m starting to think It may be worth holding off to see if they update them in Jan?

yeah it is always good to see them in person. i do, however, think its crazy to not show any dual display configurations in the apple stores. now if they had a g5 with eight diplays hooked up, that would be cool. kinda pointless but cool.

Yes, indeed, hold off until MWSF. As I've stated in other threads, Apple has new displays, it's just a question of when they will be releasing them. The new 20" iMac has a better displays in it than Apple's 20" displays itself, so updates are probably just around the corner. MWSF would definitely be a logical event to release them at.

I'm not sure what prices you would get where you live, but the Dell 24"
display gives you the best bang for the buck and actually has better specifications than either the 20' or 23" ACD.

US prices are now running about $800 shipped and many Mac users are very pleased with their quality and features.

I'm waiting for hdcp computer displays before I buy a nice new display, but then it'll probably be dells equivelant to their current 24" model they have now but with hdcp. Their 24" is a darn fine piece at a nice price.

oh and the 23 and 30 are color acurate???

I've had ZERO quality control issues with my Dell 24".

It is an HD display as well.

The ACD's are cosmetically beautiful, but the Dell 2405 FPW has more usable features and very strong specifications.

I would get the Dell 24" and spend the difference on adding more RAM
to your system.

IMO, dual screen is definatley the way to go.

With Dual screening you can have multiple windows open without the feel of it cluttering up your space. Even though a 24 or 23 widescreen could also do this, I found that a dual screen is much better because you can layout everything much better. For example, when I do papers on a dual screen, I can have 4 screens opened and layed out. One is word, and usually 3 are websites Im using.

One of the biggest benefit of dual screen especially on PC is that you can be playing games on one screen, the other one can have something opened. Whether it be AIM or IE showing you some cheat commands ;)

Although you do get alot of real estate on either of the two, dual screen gives you more horizontal space. IMO I find horizontal space much more useful than vertical.

With most mac games, a dual screen isn't working, it goes black anyhow. I have a dual setup, a 20" and 17", both Apple displays, but now I'm definately going for a 23" ACD! It's just cleaner on your desk. Also, hearing that updates would probably come with MWSF in januari... I want to buy mine now!

If you can, hold off at least for 2 months. Then, if nothing comes in January, buy a display. But new displays are coming. Apple has them already. It's just a matter of when they will release them to the public.

well, i'd give my vote to the single display just because you can open up a larger image on it rather than 2 20"s... in terms of actual screen space the 20" gives you more but the 23" is a bigger single panel, not to mention it looks better on your desk ;)

This is what I would do: buy the 23-inch now and eventually upgrade to a second one later on. Not only will you have two huge screens, but much more workspace than two 20-inch's would have given you.

I hope to do this someday. I just have to actually get an ACD 23-inch first... :p

Buy the display now and sell on ebay in January... Your loss will be minimal since Apple products hold their value well. If you can get an Education discount you can save some money and sell for the same price as you paid on ebay and not lose anything except the tax.

Well, here you go Shard, after reading your posts, you've convinced me to not buy my system with 23" now but wait for january.

I gave my money to someone in my family so that I wont spend it til then. lol

Just wanted to say thanks :) I have the feeling you're right, better display from apple do exist and should be released shortly.

Just a question, do you remember what was released at previous MWSF (2004-2005)?

Edit: never mind, I see last year it was mac Mini, and as always ipod stuff.
