Well, here you go Shard, after reading your posts, you've convinced me to not buy my system with 23" now but wait for january.

I gave my money to someone in my family so that I wont spend it til then. lol

Just wanted to say thanks :) I have the feeling you're right, better display from apple do exist and should be released shortly.

Just a question, do you remember what was released at previous MWSF (2004-2005)?

Well, I hope it works out for you - no promises of course! :)

As for last year, just do a search and I'm sure you can find what all was released. I think it was the Mac Mini, the shuffle, iLife '05, hmm, what else... I could be wrong though too... ;)

Yeah, I know there might be no update, but its a lot of money and my only apple purchase for 1-2 years so I dont want to make a "Mistake".

Its been a while the current displays are out, and the Imac is certainly a hint at something new. (And duh apple, why avent they released the new displays before the Imac? Seems a bit illogical considering the price)

Waiting never hurted anyone and I was also waiting for an official mac mini update becose they want me to play the random game at the University store... so I'll be waiting for both, trying to get the cash for my first Ipod in the meanwhile :)

I agree, I think it all depends what type of work you're going to do. Some types of work are more conducive to having dual displays, while other types of work are better done with one nice big display. Give us a better idea of what you'll be using it/them work and that will help.

I have been watching this thread with interest. Being in the accounting field, I have read and seen pictures of many accounting offices going to the dual monitors. Tax software on one while the other has the database or spreadsheet app open. I had not realized the prominence of dual monitors in this field. Then again, are there many Macs in the accounting field? Next step will be another 20” in this office.

Cheers,

I think I am going to go with deanwaterman's advice. I'll buy the 23" in hopefully a couple weeks. I'm getting a Power Mac Quad soon and will need a display to go along with it. I have a Dell 2005FPW, but I refuse to put Apple and Dell together. Ugh... :p And it's not a 100% guarantee the new Cinema Displays will be released during MWSF 2006. This way if I do get the 23" soon and no new models are unveiled, then I'll stick with it. But if they are announced, I'll just sell mine on eBay for a good price and use that money on the new model. It works out either way. :)

It really depends how Mac-minded the firm is, and which bookkeeping app they use/prefer. The only good one I came accross is iProfit, or a filemaker database made from scratch.

On the office we use SAP, I don't believe it's for Mac, we all use windoze... And all have a 17" LCD. But you really need dual displays with all those new features and layouts. With a lot of uses you have to scroll to one side to another. (bit of topic, but had to tell!)
