I just got a 12 inch ibook, and the keyboard is fine for me :). It's a change from a desktop keyboard, but for me, it's a positive change.

If you throw on an iSkin (it takes a while to get used to) typing is really easier and quieter. Your fingers have more grip on the keys with the iSkin on and it's great for protecting your screen. Pick one up, they're awesome.

Hey everyone. I am a senior in high school and I had a few questions. I have a laptop that suits me fine right now, but I think I will be buying a MacBook in september if something new comes out, and if it is 12-14 inch screen. But I was wondering one thing. It seems that typing can be pretty loud on other machines (the dell i am using now, yes, heresy, even though its really good) and I was wondering if mac's keys on their laptops are quieter. I know a lot depends on how hard you hit, but some laptops really aren't as loud as others.

Also, on a fun note, how fast do you type?

I type 115, can't seem to break it :)

I have used them at the store and I think they are superb. They are super quiet and feel really nice to type on. They are also backlit. I think they are one of the best laptop keyboards I have seen.:D

I really like the mac laptop keyboards. You don't have to push down so much (boy, do i sound lazy) and it's not loud at all. And better yet, it's lights up - not that I ever use that; it's just cool to have.

I'm typing at my school (SFU) right now and i'm on a dell and it's SO loud.

I love my PB 12" KB. Probably the best keyboard I've ever used. It's nice to not have a lot of travel on your keys when you spend a lot of time typing. I find that this keyboard helps me type a lot faster than on a 'standard' keyboard as well. Shame this one isn't illuminated :(

Biggest problem is that it needs to be cleaned every now and then if you love your Mac. I can't remember how to put the spacebar back on properly, so it's been a pain typing for the last few days..

powerbook keyboard

i have an alum powerbook and i love typing on it, the keys are very quiet and its even better when you can light it up and have everyone in the lecture hall around you just oo and ahh. i havent ever clocked in on my words per minute. I would imageine its around 75-80. if not more
