No flame intended, but that's in the eye of the beholder. To me, Linux is fuggly as hell. OS X and even Vista are prettier.

well, everything is relative, can't really argue with that :), but eye candy, IMHO, is somewhat different from "pretty 2D UI"

When I said eye candy. I meant

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of...mputer_viruses

There are a fair number of Linux viruses. More than for OS X, only because Linux has been around longer (I would assume). But still, compared to the thousands of viruses for Windows, you would truly have to be trying to infect your computer to get a virus with Ubuntu.
aha, wiki is my friend, lol:D, anyway, is there any entry similar for mac? I couldn't find one

EDIT, the data source in that wiki entry http://www.viruslibrary.com is dead.

I found an article http://www.theregister.co.uk/2003/10/06/linux_vs_windows_viruses/ mentioning (not sure how reliable tho) linux has ~40, while OSX has ~40 as well. It also mentions "hundreds dangerous" viruses for windows, but it did not mentioned how many for windows vista.

I couldn't find one for Mac, either.

I found that article, too. Its ideas seem right to me, but it's numbers seem very off. "Hundreds" of viruses for Windows? Try "thousands." And it's dated 2003.

Either way, Linux does have some viruses, as OS X has some trojans, but 99.9% of users will never get either with either Linux or Mac OS X.

That would be "40 or so for the Macintosh". The article doesn't specifically mention OS X.

i know you probably mean the numbers might includes OS classic.

I have to say I dont know if it does

This is getting insanely interesting, no data for OSX, no data for vista, dead link for Linux.

previous people only know "viruses", now they split everything into more cats, malware, spam, trojan, worms, keylogger, spyware, etc, etc

I don't believe OSes with billions of code written by human can be hole-free, just seems everybody is getting better in PR.

safest among all 3 major OSes as of now, free, more eye candy, thats all I can think of..for now:)
Bootcamp is better when used with fresh OSX, when you get too much stuff on the HDD, it has higher chance to fail, just as it did on my mini...

To fully enjoy it, you need bootcamp partition, just spend 5G on it, not a big deal. Parallels will be too slow and no 3D effects.

I appreciate your input. I didn't make myself clear. I meant parallels for putting windows on there(i was just debating whether to do that or make a partion for windows). I would like to get windows and ubuntu on there through partitions. Can this only be done through Vista? I bought xp to put on there and would like to use it if possible. Thanks.

killed my wi-fi....under 7.10 it worked right after an install, now, thats no longer true.

Bummer...Wi-Fi working easy is a big thing for people now. I'll try to fix it, but others might just move back to OS X/Vista

for those that have downloaded it, how are you liking it?

Eh, it's better than Gutsy. It could probably use some polish though, there are like 3 different ways to authenticate yourself, there's no way to control Pulse out of the box, and for some reason Brassero isn't the default disc burning tool.

So... can you get transparent windows like in Vista?

Yeah, in compiz, you can make the window borders transparent when in focus, not in focus, both/neither, etc, and you can also dynamically adjust the transparency of any window (e.g., if you want, you can assign a pair of hotkeys to make a window transparent / solid, or you can define windows from a certain app to be always transparent).

I think in my current config, I let the window borders be transparent when not in focus, and then my terminal windows are transparent also (which I find really useful, more than eye candy, because I can put it over a browser window with instructions and read the instructions through the background of the terminal window).

Compiz has a fairly substantial amount of configurability -- moreso I also think than OS X or Windows, perhaps even with 3rd party utilities, but there is a lot of clutter in it as well. I find 90% of the plugins to be useless, personally.

one word customization this makes it prettier than any OS, what if I don't like aqua? Im plain screwed.....say I don't like the way gnome or KDE or fluxbox looks by default? I can change that, so IMO linux beats the other 2 OS's in this respect.
