I'm with you.

Always one that enjoys exploring and having a first hand experience with new technologies, mobile operating systems and the like, this will be one very interesting phone to run through it's paces.

That's why I recently got an HTC 8X to test out WP8.

I'll have to wait and see how easily I can go back to android if I dislike Ubuntu... If it's just a matter of a quick flash then ill be trying this out as soon as I can.

I think I'm going to try this out tonight on my Nexus 7. I just have to install Ubuntu on my MBA. I had it installed via Parallels but I deleted it.

I'm a huge Linux enthusiast.

I've got a ThinkPad T60 I bought new, used for a year at work then turned it into my Linux Laptop. I've run a few different distros & that only increased my interest.

That led to getting involved with a company called OpenMoko, a mobile OS which was a predecessor of other Linux based mobile platforms. An interesting project.

I'll be eager to hear your experience using your Nexus 7, I think you've got a great idea. :)

That's impressive. I haven't used Linux since the early 2000s when I played around with red hat.

I'd give the phone a chance, seems like it could be fun.

Looks like Shuttleworth wants a piece of the pie!

More competition I suppose, but I hardly doubt anyone will be buying a Nexus just to stick Ubuntu on it.

It'd take some serious backing from the likes of Samsung willingly allowing it before it could even be considered to be a contender.

Samsung ARE FORCED TO ALLOW IT, the Galaxy Nexus is a Google phone, and it runs on android, so it is AOSP, android open source project, which means it is open source, aka they can do what ever the hell they want with android, apart from stuff that is illegal, like hacking into the FBI etc, and I wouldn't buy a Nexus to put uBuntu on it, but a lot of other people have been asking for it and unofficial ROMs have come out for it, and so it is wanted and people will do it.

Is there a download for Ubuntu Mobile? I have a Galaxy Nexus that I'll be selling to get an iPhone, but before I do that I'd be interested in flashing an Ubuntu ROM.

When I said willingly allow I was referring to willingly placing it as the default os on a phone being shipped, not an after market os change ;)

Obviously there is nothing stopping them releasing it for a bunch of handsets, but the only way it will ever take off is if they have a strong partner like Samsung or htc.

In my imagination
What I'd really like to see if a dual boot Android and Ubuntu device. Where I can dock my Android phone and it automatically switches to Ubuntu and shows up on a larger display, etc.

I think the double boot part is doable on the Nexus 7 but I haven't tried it myself.

I hope its really successful and launches its on brand of phone. It looks very nice and makes me want to try out the desktop OS.

They better get that product out there fast! Mobile is not a market to be slow in.
