Ugh...Samsung's Presentation Made Me Feel Embarrassed For Them

This was so hard to watch.

I just felt embarrassed for them. Does that ever happen to you? Like if you're watching a talent show or something and the people obviously suck or keep messing up and you get that weird sympathy type feeling.

The one thing they forgot to copy was Apple's presentations.

It was sooo awkward. From the jokes that no one laughed at, to the lack of clapping when someone was introduced. It was so over the top, horrible writing. And of course that guy who could barely speak English at the beginning of the show.

Honestly, how could Samsung allow this to happen? It was just so obviously bad.

(But the Galaxy S4 looked SWEET at least, I'm buying it)

So was it just me or did the presentation just suck?

Samsung would be so much better off if they hired a famous and well-liked actor or actress to be their presenter, instead of giving into the boss's stage fantasies.

I thought it was kind of refreshing with a bit of a WTF moment as opposed to Tim Cook's totally uncharismatic ramblings. Also I'm not surprised, just watch any South Korean live TV happening and you'll see that they have quite a...different approach than the usual western production style

I would rather have just read the specs/features in a list and been shown a couple pics. I couldn't even finish watching that it was so horrible. SO MUCH DERP, EVERYWHERE.

The phone looks great, don't get me wrong... but Samsung made this whole thing very much not about the phone tonight, and that's on them. They tried to demonstrate real life scenarios where these new features would be cool to have. I get that. But all I saw was a bunch of skits that looked like they were designed for a grade school play.

It was quite horrible, but then the iPhone 5 one wasn't much better when they had it just appear on a little stand that rose up from the ground. That was tacky.

My thoughts from another thread: Has it occured to anyone that Samsung knew their presentation was over the top, and did so just to make headlines? Effective marketing, get more people talking about their new phone due to the odd reveal. More people will now know about the latest Samsung Galaxy S because of the weirdness of the announcement than if they did a more proper reveal. Even if people don't watch it, they'll hear about it and know what it was about... the Galaxy S4. If they know about they Galaxy S4 after this, the marketing stunt worked!

between this and the "BORN MOBILE" Qualcomm presentation.. Why can't they hire a normal person with some degrees of common sense to plan their BIGGEST presentation of the year???

As much as I trumpet the advantages of Android over Apple, Apple's presentations certainly have a high level of sophistication and professionalism that Samsung and Qualcomm just don't comprehend/match. It's as if their event planning committee are all from Pluto, smoking some serious stuff.

I cringed throughout the whole thing, it was utterly terrible. Why didn't they just show us the cool stuff the phone could do?

You know when you watched an event hosted by Steve Jobs and had the reality distortion field where you think the new product is the best thing ever but a few hours later you look back and wonder why you thought it was so great?

This was basically the opposite. I finished watching this thing (after all that hype Sammy built up) and felt like never buying another Samsung product again. Only after looking at the details of the S4 on the Verge and watching a few videos did I go, "actually, the product itself is very good." But that presentation, it left a horrible taste in my mouth and actually turned me off the product.

Seriously, Samsung, next time you do this, just get a charismatic person up on the stage to show us the phone and tell us all the awesome stuff it does. You'll come off a lot more favourably.

I like musicals, but I hated that presentation. It wasn't the right way to present the device. Last year was much better but the marketing was too cheesy. "Inspired by nature" etc.

They'll be good but they won't have been helped by that crappy presentation. I'm not insulting the product or any of Samsung's other advertising, because of all that seems to be working well for them, but this presentation in particular was utterly terrible.

You could give your poll some kind of order, from bad to good or the other way round. But as it is, it's quite hard to interpret. First it says Awkward, Hard to watch, and Horrible, then follow some positive adjectives like good and entertaining and then it says Complete disaster ans WTF just happened?.

Really, bring some kind of order in there, so one can actually interpret the poll without being some sort of super brain

I cannot agree more. Tim Cook is not interesting to listen to, nor is anyone else they put up there. They don't seem genuinely excited like Steve did.
