Good news for people in HE! Just spotted this on the Education page in the UK store. So no need to buy Apple Care. And a 17 inch MacBook Pro is £1700 - £300 less than retail! hmmmm :rolleyes:

wow that's AWESOME :D ... but does it cover like everything the same as Apple Care ? i think i'm gonna be goin for the 17" MBP soon and the price being 300 pounds cheaper is even better :) :)

I saw this earlier this week and thought - holy crap, what a deal! You'll be able to see all those from eBay that were bought under education discount :) For some thats a great saving!!

Nice to get piece of mind, I really think Apple shares are going sky-high, Apple seem to be placing a great deal of focus on the Macintosh instead of the iPod and its really nice.

Apple - you're doing great!

Contact Apple, they will usually honor it if it was less than two to three weeks. I forget the exact number of days but there is some room for you to see if you can get it added without cost.

aww Lau... i feel sorry for you... surely there must be some way that you can get the warranty extended if you show that you just bought it a couple of weeks back??
 
Its not completely free it costs £58.75 at the bottom of the page when you select a macbook.
 
My MBP and Applecare was delivered to me on March 13th but last week i called Apple and they refunded me my Applecare which was £188. I was told that when i am ready that i should call them and they would sell it to me for £58.75 which i was very happy about.
I don't even know if i want Applecare anymore because i am not sure how long i want to keep the MBP. I think that i could sell it come Autumn if a Merom chip comes out by then so I may think on that a bit more if i am going to go ahead and purchase the Applecare again.
 
While repairs etc. will be covered for 3 years under this agreement (for free!), the extras you get with applecare i.e. the phone support won't be included. That's what you'll get for the HE price of £58.75.
 
May i ask how you know this?? Or where you obtained the info about apple care not covering everything when bought under the HE scheme.

From the apple HE website, it says you get a limited warrenty on parts/labour for free, this misses the phone support.
 
Apple Australia used to do a similar thing for EDU customers, but unfortunately they stopped it last year. Hopefully they bring it back before I buy my next Mac though.
 
to buy or not to buy ?

Actually, this post might be slightly off-topic but I am confused about one issue.

I am planning to buy a Macbook Pro 15" 1.83 Ghz, here in India. It costs us around 1500 pounds in India.

I have also applied for a course in UK starting Oct 2006 and I might just get through..

My problem is should I buy a MBP here in India and later take it to UK or should I purchase a Intel Mac Mini for temporary use and buy a MBP (with more choices) in UK ?

I am getting varying prices for MBP in UK and it is 1430 on Amazon.co.uk
Apple Education site has MBP at 1315 so the difference is just 200 pounds ?
 
Well, I'm in HE - but I'm at home!

Does this mean if I go to university to order my iMac and log in to the HE site I'll be able to get the warranty?
 
Yep, that is what confused me a bit.

By year end Apple will complete the transition to Intel and we might have better choices but there is little price difference for now.

I would have to leave my Mac Mini back in India :(

[edit] can you get this price from buying in an apple store or only over the internet? also, can you get the super cheap applecare after over the phone? or again is it an internet only thing?

No, I don't think you can get the HE prices from the brick-and-mortar Apple Stores - or from Apple resellers. You have to call the online Apple Store or access it from within your university's network.

Not sure about the AppleCare.
