Ordering mine at 12:21AM GMT got the confirmation email at 13:50 on the 10th. Nothing has changed and no money has been taken.

I ordered the 16GB 3G, no extras. :(

Have any 16GB 3G ones shipped?

Is there any chance that some models are already stockpiled here in the UK, whilst some are shipping directly from China?

32gb 3G order here, still nothing this morning. Oh well :(

I doubt you'll get anything until Monday. I got email from Apple this morning to say that my 16GB WiFi had shipped. I went to the web site and, at least in the UK, it says on the order status page that deliveries are made 9:00am to 5:00pm Monday to Friday (I think couriers charge higher rates for weekend and/or evening deliveries and Apple aren't providing that highest premium delivery option for pre-orders).

I'm selfishly hoping that the weather breaks on Monday and that it's going to be a cloudy grey day so that I don't feel so bad about being trapped indoors all day waiting for the courier to arrive.

What a start to a great weekend! Just got an email saying its shipped. Can see my invoice but wheres the tracking number, nothing works on the tnt site. ??

Ordered my 32GB wifi at 5-30PM 10 May confirmation email came at 8 PM. UK and US sites have it marked shipped. I have received shipped email and 9 digit tracking no that brings up a blank on TNT.

Are we sure they are coming by the proverbial slow boat from China? Allowing one day for internal delivery, is five days enough time for a rusty old tub to chugg them across?

Definitely. That's how it's supposed to work although these things have probably been "stockpiled" in the UK for a matter of hours.

I suspect that what's happening is that the folks in Apple logistics planned for the first batch of iPads to be landing in the UK about a week before the announced 28th May date so that they had a safety margin if something on the production line in China stalled or if bad weather held up the shipment of the units to the UK or if there was some other problem. After putting back the UK availability date once they were probably playing safe because a second postponement would have been embarassing..

What's probably now happened is that everything went perfectly and the first batch of iPads cleared UK customs yesterday so they probably got trucked straight to the Apple distribution centre where they got checked in. There may or may not have been a hold on the shipments that required an executive decision to open the taps and decide to ship early or the systems might have been opened already so that as soon as the units got logged into the distribution centre they immediately started fulfilling orders.

Of course another possibility is that someone in Apple made a mistake and accidentally updated the status on a load of orders to "Shipped" when they're not but I really hope this isn't the case; it would be a big mistake and there are probably cross-checks to prevent it so I don't think this is what happened.

They come from elsewhere in Europe.

No. I think it's more like 10 days to sea-freight from China. It could be air-freight but I doubt it. I think they've landed in the UK and are now being dispatched from the Apple UK distribution centre.

Where do you people see the TNT designation for the courier? I have two additional numbers now to add to my "W<number>" order number. I have a 10 digit delivery reference number in the email and on the order status on the website I see a different 9 digit number but nowhere do I see any mention of what courier is being used (I'm hoping it's not TNT because in my area they're one of the worst).

In Order Details on US Apple it has:

Shipped on: May 22, 2010 via TNT International Express | Print invoice
Delivers:
Tracking #: *********

EDIT: its on US Apple.

I was wondering about the time to sail from China to the UK, bearing in mind they will need at least two days after docking in the UK to clear Customs and deliver.

If they are shipping from a UK location then either the courier is going to stockpile them for delivery on the 28th (but why???) or they'll arrive early - the order status does say "delivers by 28th May"

HAving said that, someone posted a few pages back a cut and paste of the TNT tracking data that showed the package was collected in China, so maybe it is air-freight?

The tracking info for orders that shipped yesterday are showing them departing China. I'm sure this will be using air-freight. These all seem to be wi-fi models.

So far we have reports of one 3G + Vodafone SIM 'Prepared for shipment'. It is possible the 3Gs have/are being stockpiled in Europe for shipping later in the week.

Either way, I'm sure Apple will have told the couriers to hold back delivery until Friday 28th.

You've got more than me. Nothing here still. They said first come first served. Looks more like first come last served.
