The Misty Mountains
Regarding Season 3 it may seem hard to follow, but it boils down to this:
When they went back in time to Dallas, Vanya interacted with a woman whom she became romantically involved with, and her child had a power, who she helped, or thought she did, but the child grows up, accidentally kills the mothers of the Umbrella Academy member before they are born or even conceived in the unexplained “conception” event.

This causes the Grandfather Paradox, ie kill your Grandfather and you are no longer were born, but yet you exist. (In Back to the Future you existence is totally erased, but not here, just calamity. ;)). So when the Umbrella Academy members return to their present, not only were they never born, yes they exist, but the world has changed and apparantly this paradox is making it slowly come appart.

It’s something that the Commision would normally fixed, but they have been trashed too. I like this approach from a story telling standpoint, better than the splitting off timelines such as Marvel‘s stories who except they want their cake and eat it too. ;)

Before starting Season 4, went back to the beginning. Season 1 is solid.

They don’t prevent the apocalypse, but traveling back in time, gives them the chance to fix it, if they can fix Vanya…

You're in for a rude awakening in terms of quality for season 4.

I have heard way to many bad things about season four, which is why I have put off watching it. Season one, by far, was the best season IMHO... The rest (two and three) have been just ok.

I’m just about to wrap Season 2 which I’m really enjoying set in early 1960s Dallas. I realize some viewers don’t like social commentary, no accusation, but I‘m appreciating the portrayal of African Americans struggling in a racist society. Something similar took place in HBO’s Watchmen, which I also enjoyed.

Oh no, I liked season two... wasn't the best, and it was fell short of season one... Three is just ok...

Ok, did not finish Season 4, set aside:
  • Season 1 & 2 make this worth watching.
  • Season 3- An extended end of the world scenario, which they spent too much time on, is good enough to wrap up the series.
  • Season 4- Eh, too unworthy, it lost me in the second episode, where I no longer cared.

If you stopped at the second episode of season four, good job, it's downhill from there. WAYYYYY downhill.
