Nae bother.

I think that in the MBP series changing energy settings just affects the sleep times and display sleep times and also the brightness of the screen in relation to the light sensor.
 
When my MBP is on for more than ten minutes, the metal right above the keyboard gets so hot, it literally burns my fingers if I touch it. I have a feeling that isn't right?

the MBPs do get hot, but 10 min is rather short, mine'll get pretty hot up there after about 30-40 min of itunes and web browsing.

open activity monitor and see if your CPU usage is high and why.
 
Why dont you just buy a good Aluminum cooling pad?
those pad are a little bit high from the back side and got 2-3 fans in them..they very much cool your notebook..
 
Mine gets luke warm at best. >.> Admittedly, I use a griffin elevator when I'm at home, but it never gets uncomfortably hot.
