The bad guys have had the code for months.

They are though, as the bad guys have been at work reverse engineering the code for hours now. And that's assuming there were no zero days. The first exploits show up in days or hours now.

You do realize that one can't derive the source code of something from a compiled build, correct?

Sooooooo, iOS 13 has security updates, but the iPad won't get it until the end of the month.

I was hoping we'd get a 12.x point update today with just the security content, but nope.

Soooooooooooooo technically we shouldn't have them online, particularly with non-curated (i.e. Hulu, etc.) content.

Yes and make sure you use extra layers of tape over your iPad camera... 😉😂

It's an interesting premise, but essentially a fool's errand. The vast majority of OS releases (from every source) contain security fixes, because new security holes are constantly being found. If it's inevitable that the next update will also require a security update....

The only winning move, to borrow a line from the (now old) film, War Games, is not to play.

But we don't stop using our homes because they're vulnerable to break-in - we'd all be living in windowless, poured concrete blockhouses, surrounded by armed guards (literally, your home is a castle). We wouldn't allow our family members out of the house, as the world is a perilous place.

In a sense, refusing to use all computing devices until the next security update is released is like refusing to travel by car until there are no drunk or otherwise dangerous drivers on the road. Certainly, one can live life that way, but the vast majority of us choose to accept the risk in order to have the benefits that come from traveling by car or using our computing devices.
