but I cannot change device.
It is on contract as I cannot afford to buy outright (yes I know it cost me more in long run)
My carrier has only a few tablets available and the pro was best of bunch when I read reviews of the tablets they have to offer.

I can live without file manager as the individual app will deal with storage on its own and the pro has 64GB where the samsung is only 8 or 16 so I do not have to worry about moving files to an SD card to free up space.
That was my main use for the file manager.

we already have a pencil as my fiancee has a pro, but she dont use the pencil so I'm gonna play with it.

I have a mac bluetooth keyboard, not keyboard case but will do same thing when on my desk.

the pencil is the killer app for the ipad pro in my view. but you need to have a use for it.

if you don’t, then you may well remain underwhelmed.

i’ve used mine to eliminate a heap of paper from my life.

I want try drawing again (procreate, etc)

I used to draw, pencil and paper.
was relaxing for me.

but i think it may also be able to do what I want for work but smaller and lighter.
I got a 13" 2010 macbook right now for work.
Most our work is online (customer database, customer job sheets, etc) so it should cope easy.

Definitely, I bought the stylus, not for me, but for my kids. I use my iPad every day, but the stylus is not used very much. I knew this would be the case, so I have no regrets.

I'm not slating the tablet before anyone jumps in!

Appart from screen res it has not wowed me.

I had a sumsung tab s 8.4 on EE data contract.
It came up for renewal last week so pay £50 upfront and get a pro for not much more than I was previously paying.

I was originally thinking of going with the samsung s2 8.4 but many reviews said it was actually worse in screen department than the first 8.4 I already have.

My fiancee loves her 9.7 pro so decided to go for the pro 10.5

Very very nice tablet, i find it a bit thin and not so easy to hold due to thin bezels.
It is fast but not really find it faster than my old 8.4 samsung generally.
Yes it is faster but not massively that it super noticeable.

It loads the two games i have on it fast but they not too graphic, boom beach and clash of clans.

I'm hoping to use it to try drawing on, think that is where it will come into it's own.
I'm not a master drawer and my disability has hindered drawing with pencil and paper.
So thought try the pro as my fiancee has a pencil for her pro she almost never uses.

I have only had the tablet 4 days and was not able to use over weekend so I need play with it more yet.
I still use my samsung for reading usb memory sticks which as of yet the ipads cannot in same way.
Also I have a usb camera I use down tubes/pipes/small holes etc that is android/windows only and cannot be used on ipad, shame as the screen res would be perfect!

It really depends what you use it for. Do you need that A10X performance to run serious apps like Affinity Photo? Do you need the best digital pen on the market? Do you need a huge selection of tablet-optimized apps? - iPad Pro will blow your mind.

Also, try some of the more graphically demanding games, or better yet, try some of the AR stuff, like The Machines AR. I'm fairly certain Galaxy Tab doesn't come close.

However, if you need a tablet just to surf, watch videos, use email (all legit usage cases) - the difference is probably not that huge. iPad is still better, though - and you'll get OS updates for years to come, unlike Samsung.

You may be better off with a samsung tablet for the things you like to do. You seem like you actually manage files as well and you wont get a true file manager on a ipad. Look into the newest Galaxy tab A 10.1 with s pen and 3 gb ram. Most people have no problems with this device.

If price is not the issue, iPad Pro will be better at almost anything. And get more OS updates. Just saying. Personally, I see it like this, there are two kinds of people: those who I recommend iPads to, and those that don't need/like tablets.

iOS 11 has Files and it's a file manager. You can use it for local and cloud storage, the only difference is that you can't access external storage directly. But, as you said, that won't be an issue since 64Gb is enough for you.

Similar situation to me.

Also have a 13” Macbook Pro. It doesn’t get used much any more as it sits awkwardly between what my iPad Pro can do, and what my Desktop PCs can do (32 GB at home, 64 GB at work).

The iPad can also do document scanning, drawing, etc. and the Macbook Pro can’t. It’s also much lighter.

Don’t think i’ll buy another Macbook, it’s probably iPad/iPhone and either an iMac (or iMac Pro) or PC from here.

Nice thread. I have an iPad Pro 10.5, Apple pencil, and Samsung Galaxy Tab A 10.1 with S pen. Both can do the jobs I want, but the iPad Pro is better. I'm using Affinity Photo and Procreate that's why :)

I'm not surprised that the OP is underwhelmed coming from an experienced Android user background.

The ios11 additions for the iPad are welcome but only touch the tip of the iceberg.

As good as the iPad is in certain areas...it's still very much lacking in others.

I go back to what I said before...incremental improvements/not addressing USB3/etc, Apple's lack of vision and unwillingness to take the iPad closer to a PC/laptop substitute.....to name a few deficiencies.

It's a niche product as it stands. I'm not afraid to call it, what it is.

My kids love coloring on my iPad too. But it’s when the 3 yr old starts slamming the Pencil tip onto the screen that I cringe...

My kids are significantly older and have their own iPhones, so them abusing my iPad is not really something I'm concerned about :)

The strength is in the apps.

If you’re not going to buy any applications, then sure, iOS 11 plus the keyboard and pencil is going to be ... meh...

Getting attacked by all the Apple apologists...

Truth is tablets are all underwhelming and barely useful in any way. Certainly nowhere near laptop replacements.

The pen is not as good as Wacom.
Procreate is a joke compared to Photoshop, etc.
Even importing a photo layer as a shape fill in the apps. Good luck. All sorts of limitations.

You can get the Samsung Notebook 9 Pro 13" for close to the same price.
Better pen, real computer, 13", still light.

Maybe for you for most? no

tablets are more useful and used than even phones. Just because people don't see the need to upgrade every year doesn't mean they aren't really important. for many they are laptop replacements.for others? sure maybe not. Depends on the programs you use.

No. It's not just me. It's most.

Tablets were almost a fad that people have mostly gotten bored with.
There was a little second run with all the laptop replacement BS marketing the manufacturers were pushing. But people have mostly wised up since then too.

I'm not sure if that's true

I see people all the time on their phones, I don't see them on iPads much.

Then there's the fact that Apple has sold by quite a margin, more iPhones then iPads so people are getting and using more iPhones then iPads. Apple broached the 1 billion phone sold mark in 2016, and from googling it, Apple only sold about 300 to 360 million iphones since its introduction. (not a small number but it is less then the iPhone)

Just in my circle of friends, I know more people with iPhones then with tablets (regardless of the maker).

I use my mate 9 phone more than my ipad pro.

more conveniente as always on me.
But I want to use the tablet more just i'm too lazy get it out drawer and power on when phone right in my pocket and on already.

That must be why the PC market is going gang-busters at the moment.

oh wait...

You got iPhones instead of iPads in there :p

Though, if people are like me, I use my iPad mostly at home, all over the house, whereas people take their phones everywhere due to the pocket size and well, it’s a phone. My point is that I use the phone when I’m out, but really never at home, and it’s vise versa for the iPad, so you don’t see me using it in public.

You are wrong in your assumptions. if I said it once I'll say it a thousand times. Most people are not power users even on laptops. Email, Netflix, Pictures, Music, Maps and Social Media are all most people do. Most also prefer a larger screen beyond the phone and thats where the tablets come in. Reading news is much more enjoyable on a tablet along with all of the common uses I noted above. They are even taking over the retail market for credit card use and even menus. Schools are using them as hard bound book replacements (helping the environment). Service industry uses them to replace pen and paper for work orders.

There will always be a need a desktop, a portable desktop (laptop) a smart phone an even a larger version of the phone (Tablets)

I kind of agree, I just went from an Air 2 to the 10.5 and it is a very nice upgrade. But even the promotion didn't "wow" me. I'm just glad I have a very powerful tablet that should last me at least the next 2 years. Plus, I got a great deal on it, so it was a no brainer.

Meh, you barrack for Norwood, what do Norwood fans know :)
