Got an iPhone X on contract from sprint and I will be leaving the country (to asia) for a while but I am sure it would not work since it is locked to sprint. Sprint wouldn't help (unless I pay the full amount) and I can understand but I don't really have the money right now. are there other ways to unlock it? There seem to be many websites that claim to be selling unlock services and there are also listings on eBay for the same.
Would those work?
Can you guys suggest a legit website / eBay seller for it?
also I came across chip based unlocks like "R-sim12" do those work?

I don't mind if sprint ends up blacklisting it for getting it unlocked via 3rd party service since it would still work outside the US.

I know this thread is old, but Sprint offers a 4G data package for in Asia for an additional $50 I know this because I bought it way before this post back in May 2017 You have to ask them for it. I always press 5 5 2 to get to the real helpers with elevated permissions, and a lot more knowledge than the people you'll speak to otherwise. It might be 5 2 2. I'm not sure. Follow the prompts to cancel your account. Those are the ones that know everything. Kinda like senior representatives or something. But fair warning.... It doesnt work near as good as here. Your other option is to get a sim card insert for $5 to $10 and put your sim card on top of it. It changes your ICCID and becomes fully carrier unlocked. You can buy a package when you get to where you are going. You can find these at imeigurus.com and Amazon or Ebay.

No, I think your only option is to pay off the phone.

See my last post.

SIM Interposers use software to fool the hardware.

That's a software unlock and not a hardware unlock. SIM Interposers cannot hardware unlock a device. Remove them and the device is still locked.

SIM Interposers work and it's one solution, but it's not the same thing as having the carrier submit the IMEI to Apple. So describing it as "fully" unlocked is misleading.

I have sprint and was using the iphone forever and ONLY bought it under the pretense that it could be internationally unlocked immediately. I live in asia for 11 months out of the year. Sprint CAN bend the rules to help you out as it says on their page that the rules may change without notice and for no reason. that being said i have spent the last month and 50+ hours talking to countless low end employees several managers and at least 5 people in the executive escalations team. So no. Sprint is total and absolute garbage. They'll lie to do whatever to get you to sign that paper then they say thats too bad you signed either pay or we'll destroy your credit have a good day then give you the middle finger. Any interaction i have with them from now on will either be recorded and saved or have a signed transcript because also the notes on your account from your call ins aren't yours. you can't request those. In order to get those, you have to have a subpoena so youre better off recording them yourselves. also they don't log all interactions and if they find an interaction they dont like theyll delete it. good luck.

Absolute Complete Garbage Company
