You don't need to be unlocked, but if you have a ATT (non iPhone plan) SIM you need to bypass activation somehow in order to use it.

Please Help!!!

Hey guys:

There have been a lot of anxious people out there that have asked whether or not upgrading to 2.0 firmware retains the unlock state of the iPhone. Sorry if this is a duplicate thread, I did do a search.

So - my story - I have an iPhone which was bought from the Apple Store in the Christiana Mall, Delaware back in September 2007. I unlocked it with AnySIM on 1.0.2, and have subsequently upgraded the firmware over the various revisions until getting to 1.1.4.

As the iPhone 2.0 made its way online (via a forum on here), I thought I'd give it a shot and see if it is possible to have the 2.0 firmware on my unlocked iPhone.

I can categorically stated that upgrading to 2.0 RELOCKS and jails the phone as most people expected. Meaning, no service and the ability to use any function except to make an emergency call only.

I have tried this evening twice to ensure that I can go back down successfully to 1.1.4 and can.

So - WAIT for the dev community to have a play with the firmware and wait a week or two. The firmware will be cracked soon!

I have been on this computer and on my iPhone for almost 12 hours trying to fix a problem I created. I just got my phone (Unlocked, T-Mobile) a couple days ago and Thursday night I FINALLY got my iPhone to the way I wanted it to be. I get home, open my iTunes, and it asked me for an update. I clicked ok. A few minuted later I notice my phone's screen is changing, which is when I realized what I had done. As you probably guess, I installed iPhone 2.0.

So, I started to google for help. Wondering what all I could do. Well after hours and hours of frustration I did the whole "hold Home and Top button" un-installed iTunes 7.7 and installed 7.5. I dropped my iPhone back down to 1.1.4 (what I originally had)

Sounds like everything should be ok now right? WRONG!
iTunes will only connect with my phone if it's in "restore"
If its on the home screen I get that "iTunes was unable to connect to iPhone 'iPhone' because of an unknown error" or something along those lines.
Thats not the frustrating part...
I now have absolutely no signal (I had full same spot I'm sitting in) and the "T-Mobile" thing is not there. Which I believe was a problem with the downgrade or unlocking.

I really hope that someone could help me with this. I am very upset and after hours and hours and HOURS of working on this, I'm afraid to say I have ran out of ideas.

"I have tried this evening twice to ensure that I can go back down successfully to 1.1.4 and can." <--- after seeing that I saw some hope, which I hope will help me.

PLEASE HELP!!! I would greatly appreciate it

OS: Windows XP

Pwnage will help. Don't know the steps for it to work on Windows so I can't help you there.

I tried that and it made my phone go crazy! It was stuck between restarting and the loading black and white scrolling text screen. It took me 30 mins to get it to turn off

its supposed to do that, thats when the app is pwning ur iphone. then you have to create a custom 1.1.4 firmware on the ipsw builder function, and then restore your phone from itunes using the custom firmware. hope that helps.

I'll wait a month if I have to. It's free software to free my iPhone. It's worth the wait!

my thoughts exactly. plus some of the installer apps that are must-haves for me aren't in app store (iCopter, video recorder) plus they're free

Is it supposed to do it over and over again (Scroll, Apple 'start up window', Scroll, Apple, ect) for more than ten minutes?

"PLEASE HELP!!! I would greatly appreciate it"

At this point, it is clear as crystal that you should leave your iPhone as
it is and wait for next week. The Dev Team suggested that version 2.0 will
be out by then, which may definitely solve your problem.

If you follow this advice, you will NOT make things worse.

I will add ome more thing : even if they release version 2.0, do NOT
do anything for at least a week. This will ensure that other people
have plenty of time to test it and report its effectiveness.

Ok, it hurts not having your beloved gadget but it is better to wait than having
a permanent brick. Anyway, we are talking about days which is
not a tragedy at all.

well ten minutes is a bit over the expected time :s I really dont know about that. My suggestion would be to leave it like that until it stops and continue the regular procedure

I'll try it again. But it is supposed to switch back and fourth between those two like that though correct? I thought my phone just wasn't liking it and kept refreshing to get rid of it.

As I said before I really dont know, it has always worked smoothly with me. to be honest with you, I've never even read whats going on my phone's screen, so I dont really know. hopefully somebody else knows more than I do, but if I was in your position I'd give it one more shot :)

So simple!!

1. Put the iPhone in DFU mode.
2. Restore in iTunes to 1.1.4.
3. Received error 1015.
4. Ran the modified version of ZiPhone with all 3 boxes checked. (The version matinez posted)
5. Put the iPhone in restore mode.
6. Restore in ITunes to 1.1.4.. again... No errors this time.
7. Used the standard ZiPhone 3.0 to "Do it all".
8. It works!
