I am irrationally impatient when it comes to this stuff.

I just got tired of waiting and bought it. I'm just going to ask the iTunes store to refund my $20 tomorrow after things have died down.

Is there any technical reason why someone who pressed the button at the same time as me received it within 1 minute - and I'm sitting here 80 minutes later with nothing?

Such a ridiculous system. Can anybody explain to me why I should have to scan a proof of purchase when bought online via their online store.

Surely they could just make it automated if bought direct from Apple. Log in using your Apple ID/Password, provide your serial number and maybe the order number and then let the servers scan for this and see if it all matches and give you the code straight away.

Stupid. Hope I can get it by today. I'm tempted to just use my £70 voucher to get it free from the App store anyway using that credit. I need to do it for my iMac, but I'm holding out hope that I can use my free MBPR upgrade program on more than one mac.

Edit: What are the 'claim numbers' we were told to record and save for a later date even for? I can't see anywhere a place to enter to try track progress or anything; I didn't even get a confirmation email, is that normal?

Wait, you had to scan a proof of purchase? It never asked me to do anything like that and I purchased in the online store.

I called Apple right away after not receiving the email within 10 minutes. The rep said it can take up to 2 days. Really hoping this isn't the case. That would be an epic fail.

Yup, UK site could be different.

Edit: Or to do with the fact my serial number isn't coming up when I check the 'service and coverage' section. Sent an e-mail to Apple over this as I ordered on the 15th June with my MBPR being shipped on the 12th July. I'd hope their systems have put my S/N in the database by now.

I'd imagine that is the case considering it can't recognise the S/N. *sigh*.

Just been on the phone to support at Apple.

To cut a long story short, they don't have a clue if you've made a claim.

They just tell you to wait and when I asked why some people get theirs in 30 seconds and others might have to wait 30 hours, the man said "it's just a bit of an erratic system".

Mmm. Say that again.

Filled-out the "Up To Date" form, and submitted it; both emails (pdf and passcode) arrived within five minutes! :p

...but the code I received "has already been used".

I don't know what's worse; waiting for the original code, or waiting for a replacement code. Time to start praying to The Ghost of Jobs. Which direction is Cupertino from here? I need to point my :apple:-embossed preyer-mat towards it...

must say, i'm a little displeased about this. My MBP is freak'n registered w/ you apple. Is it that hard to say, login w/ your apple ID and select which registered product qualifies, heck, you should just say, Hey Drew, we notice you've got one qualifying computer, is that the one you want to submit? Me: Yes. Apple's website: Ok, here's the code. We already are offering you a year of repair and support so here's your measly free upgrade code.
BOOM! DONE!

And you can actually submit multiple entries. I re-submitted using the exact same details and S/N and it let me do it again. Very odd system.

I am used to apple being smart, simple, and innovative with it's products

What I don't understand is that if the software is going to be free anyways why doesnt apple simply use the built in software update panel to update all the retina macbook pro's and all the mid 2012 macbook's with the correct model number, since they were released on or after the required date for a free code. Just saying that would be a lot simpler and easier for all of us.

Applied for mine 2 hours 10 mins ago and nothing...

A friend applied for his 10 minutes after me and got his 10 minutes later...

Pretty annoyed since my plan was to start the download and leave it running while I was out. Can't do that now... Absolutely no reason why they couldn't have started up to date applications a month ago. If I don't get it by this evening I'm going to download it and pay for it, then get them to refund it. Seems like a pretty badly mismanaged launch.

Submitted mine yesterday around like noon i think. Still nothing. But I don't get all this PDF stuff you guys had to do? I just summated my info and serial number. And at the end they gave me a reference number to write down but I didn't.. I really hope I get an email soon from them.
