Would it be possible to run this on say, Mac OS X 10.2.8?
Not as it is compiled, but it might be doable in a future release.

What does this even mean.So our PPC machines can only display monochrome like urls ? No thank you.. TenFourFox is better.
Allow me to explain. Monochrome web browsers such as Lynx or Links are not very useful sadly.. I am not saying its a bad idea, just that I prefer to access websites with pictures, instead of like it was back in the early days of the internet. Lynx I remember using back in 1990s.. surely, TenFourFox would be the alternative to such monochrome browsers.
Until we have a low priced POWER machine, this is literally the best we will do - technically, we do it’s in M1 format the cousin to PPC.
Why the need for this is Interweb can do it better ? Now, for those running 10.0-10.4.11 ? Maybe it’s good idea.. but on G4’s and G5’s seems interweb is the better one - congrats to WickNix.A new PowerPC and Intel build of Links 2 will be out soon!
I haven't seen one of those in awhile! How is Leopard with 256MB of ram?I'd like to report that I have Links2 fully operational, with GUI, on my AppleTV running 10.5.8. It's surprisingly fast and functional, even with major RAM limitations. What a delightful way to get this machine online.

Well, it's obviously not fast, but I put an SSD in and it's surprisingly usable. I frankly don't have any purpose for owning it other than to mess around, so the machine doesn't do any heavy lifting.I haven't seen one of those in awhile! How is Leopard with 256MB of ram?
No JavaScript or need for adsWhy the need for this is Interweb can do it better ? Now, for those running 10.0-10.4.11 ? Maybe it’s good idea.. but on G4’s and G5’s seems interweb is the better one - congrats to WickNix.
And a G5 quad has those issues ? It’s a shame JavaScript never worked well on PPC. Maybe it should never have been created at all.No JavaScript or need for ads
Faster load times
Fully up to date
Availability of a command line interface
Etc.
Yeah that makes sense, I would honestly do the same thing if I had one of those!Well, it's obviously not fast, but I put an SSD in and it's surprisingly usable. I frankly don't have any purpose for owning it other than to mess around, so the machine doesn't do any heavy lifting.
Links2 isn't aimed at quad G5s though it would run.. It's aimed at things like G3s or slower macs with limited ram.And a G5 quad has those issues ? It’s a shame JavaScript never worked well on PPC. Maybe it should never have been created at all.
I did try to do this but porting it didn't work out, 10.2.8 isn't really unix-like to modern software. For viewing forums/image boards (I'm pretty old school with internet content still TBH), this really is the best way to go even on my iBook G4. As TFF becomes less supported, this will continue to be updated with newer certificates and TLS as well.Links2 isn't aimed at quad G5s though it would run.. Links2 is pretty useful to browse around on things like my Beige Macs and PBG3's.
Though I still wish it would run on 10.2.8
Don't worry about TLS. So long as we have Interweb we are fine, though TLS 1.4 won't be coming out until 2035. By that time the world will be without human existence, so who will worry about it.I did try to do this but porting it didn't work out, 10.2.8 isn't really unix-like to modern software. I have trouble to using the graphics mode using Panther 10.3.9 (X11 installed)I have ported the newest version of the Links2 web browser to Mac OS X 10.3.9-10.6.8. This will work on any PPC Mac, or an Intel Mac with Rosetta.
Links2 is wicked quick and supports TLS 1.3. It uses the latest Mozilla CA certificates, and OpenSSL among other things. Wikipedia and many sites work flawlessly (but there is no javascript support).
