This is pretty ridiculous, my sister's base MBP Mid 2010 on 10.6.x shuts down much faster than my rMBP 2.6. Mine literally boots up 2x as fast as it shuts down sometimes. And when i'm running windows 7, it shuts down in 2-4 seconds.

Considering there was no grey screen with Lion. You clicked shutdown, desktop, black screen and click. 2 seconds.

I did not know this! I think I'm just paranoid from my Leopard days when I would "sleep" my machine only to find the damn fans whirring at 6000rpm the next day.

Besides... there's just something "final" about a nice black screen while closing the lid after a 3 second shutdown.
That's why I said that, regardless of being able to close the lid keeping the shut down process going, a 30 second shut down time is not acceptable. I never said I didn't mind about that ;)

With what workload before shutting down? I just need to start iTunes & Airplay (and close again beforehand) for the slow shutdowns. Just for interest.
Is this happening using the latest beta like theBulge? Or are you merely talking about your shutdown woes with 10.8.2. like everybody else here?

My friend just bought a brand new 13" base model MBP. Hers takes forever to shut down.
Well there we have it then. Now that a female has confirmed this issue it's a bonafide fact. (Just ask your wives if the female species is ever wrong about anything ).

Please file a bug report on this issue. There are plenty of links on how to attach a system log in the "comments" section of the bug report.

http://www.apple.com/feedback/macbookpro.html

This is a very serious issue and one that we do not want to be overlooked by the development team in lieu of facebook integration or some other B.S., since it dramatically affects those of us who rely on stable operating systems to use our macs as work machines.

10.8.3 update. Not full reformat

First shut down took 4 seconds

Second shut down took 12 seconds

Third shut down after making sure Safari was closed along with Pages and it took 3 seconds to shut down. Happy now....

Just updated to 10.8.3 on a 2012 mini w/ Samsung 840 SSD and unfortunately find no change. Still have consistent 20 sec. shut downs.
Ditto here. And to prove this isn't fixed try shutting down from the login screen. This show there are no apps in memory causing this. It's pure OSX.

Just updated my 2009 MBP and see no change in it either. I was really hoping it would fix the MBP because I shut it down a lot but almost never shut down the mini. Maybe it will get fixed in 10.9 :(

Use your machine between tests. Give OSX time to bog down first.
