Crap. Mines coming on Friday. Now I'm worried...
You should be fine. My first impression with my new Macbook pro screen was also negative but after a week use and finding the correct color profile made me very happy. Since Apple choice to give long battery live for the 15" model, they choice a narrow view angle to have minimum power consumption from the display (also previous generation MBP's had the same philosophy).
This create a slide light fall off at the bottom of the screen, but you know what, after few days of use, you don't even notice it anymore.

I can tell you, this laptop rocks, it is the best experience ever with a computer. I never will go back to anything less if I can afford it.
I also have a dual processor G5 powermac and several PC laptops.
Also you should know that nothing is perfect in live.

Nothing is perfect...

but for 2.5k it better be close, and BETTER than the competition.

I have never had to worry on any laptop I have owned (a ton) about the screen being messed up to this degree.

Has anyone reported issues with an LG screen? I picked this laptop up this last weekend. I do notice an ever so slight discoloration on the bottom, horizontally about an inch from the bottom. Also it is slightly brighter in this same area.

I have a glossy model. Is there a chance that there is a glossy screen out there that is just brilliant? evenly lit and absolutely no issues? If so I may return this laptop.

Thx.

I didn't say that fixing the color profile solves the 1/3 issue, but most people will be having just the overall yellow issue since they come with too yellow of a profile, which has been shown time after time with those side by side shots. That is completely fixable. If you also have the 1/3 yellow then that's a separate problem. But for overall yellow, it's totally not a defect since it's completely fixable.

I don't see this as a negative at all, and I don't see it as bringing the quality of the computer down. So they picked the wrong color profile to make default, no biggie. I go to a professional makeup artist and maybe the first time around they pick the wrong color foundation for my skin and I look jaundiced. Oh well, pick another shade. I say an easily fixable little mistake should not be considered a decrease in quality at all. If you're really that concerned about the color of your screen you should be calibrating it anyway so this doesn't make it below the competition.

I just repeat, after about 3 weeks of use, this MBP rocks, never had an experience with a laptop like this before. Soo much attention to detail this product has. It takes at least 1 to 2 weeks to grow into it or learn it.
it is mostly first week reaction that you see on the forums (O my god, I think I made the wrong investment).

new iMac screen yellowish too?

So, I went to apple store today,.... comparing all the screen that apple makes. Only MacBook seems normally,.... MBP 15, 17", iMac all have the yellowish screen!

Can anyone confirm this?

Yep ... I've tested MBP at 2 apple stores and a CompUSA by dragging the images found on this thread onto the desk top and opened them in preview. Yellow. I've tested the same images on my 2.16 MBP and they are fine. I'm thinking I'm going to hold off on a purchase for a while.

On a side note ... I did try the test images on the new iMacs in the store and they looked fine (accept for my reflection looking back at me in the black test picture! )

I think I read enough.... I cannot wait 3+ weeks working with a "potential" yellow screen , being in the bucket $2.5K,,and find "belated" customer satisfaction. Customer satisfaction is the no1 guiding principle of every enterprise, and it should come out of ther box.
There are always risks in new product development, someone did not assess the "quality of screen" in the right way.

I am cancelling my order now. I am pulling out of this joke.

Photo of my week 31 LG matte yellowish screen!

It's really bad,...

I originally had one with the 1/3 yellow screen. The entire screen was really really yellow, but the bottom 1/3 was really bad. I couldn't live with it, so I returned it and got a new one.

This 2nd one I am on now is perfect. :) The entire screen is all good. Its a little warmer compared to my 3 year old iBook, but defiantly looks much better and more sharper :)

Um...no. The screen is yellow at angles because of the backlighting and not due to any kind of issue.

But my 1st SR MBP doesn't have that yellow tint even when viewing from the side,.....

So you guys are saying my MBP is normal?

Yes, your MBP looks normal. If you want, I can take pics of my screen. It will be the same as yours and I have no dead pixels or yellow tint at the bottom third or any of that.

Just calibrate the screen (if you need to) and start enjoying you new prized possession.

But why is MacBook's white color is white even when looking from the side?

I also notice the yellow in the new iMac,....

I think i'll wait for Oct when the new update is released,... only a bit more than a month away,..... and I can wait.

Cybergypsy your LG matte is a store bought week 30 macbook pro. Wonder if anyone else has such a white LG screen when viewed off angle that is build week 30 or later? For that matter if anyone cares to chime in with such a white screen at whatever build week. I truy envy your screen Cybergysey - that is what Apple should be shipping de facto. I hope its is not uncovered as some sort of fake trick photoshop effect lol.
