Anyone else notice 'smartlock' in security settings?

Any BT device or NFC tag can be set up as a trusted device to allow the phone to be unlocked without a pin or gesture. Once my connected smart watch is out of range, my phone requires my pin to be unlocked. Nice little feature!

Face unlock is now under smart unlock. It no longer shows your face and works in the background and seems much faster. Try it out it works great.

Overall this preview is much more polished than the earlier build. Almost like night and day. I really love it.

Is it me or is there no double tap to wake option anywhere?

Has double tap to wake been confirmed to work on the Nexus 6? The Lollipop site just says "Where supported by the hardware, your device will wake up as soon as you pick it up or tap the screen twice"

How do we know if it is supported by the hardware? I hope I'm wrong but my gut feeling is that the Nexus 6 might only support waking up when picked up.

In contrast, it says this for "OK Google"

"Even if your screen is off, you can say "OK Google" on devices with digital signal processing support such as Nexus 6 and Nexus 9 "

DT2W is a simple kernel adjustment. All the Nexus devices, Moto X, Samsung S and LG devices can get this feature.

''OK Google'' only works on devices without a dedicated co-processor if the device is on.

Time will tell.

I could have sworn the line I quoted earlier actually included the Nexus 9 under it yesterday but maybe my memory is off.

It does seem that the Nexus 9 page on Google does list Doubletap to wake as a feature under Technical Specifications but it's not listed anywhere on the Nexus 6 page. Hopefully I'm wrong.

Trust me, tons of ROMs use DT2W and it is just a kernel adjustment. I have personally used DT2W on Moto X, Samsung S3 and Nexus 4/5/7.
If Google chooses to not put this in certain kernels, I'll be pissed.

Wow, L is just great. I really think that Android has surpassed iOS's fluidity this time. Animations are very smooth and very intuitive. The OS looks so clean and elegant.

Good job Google!

I think the issue will come down to h/w. If you think about it the double tap requires that the screen (at least the touch interface) be constantly energized. On phones that have this h/w built in it's no problem, but for handsets that don't have this h/w this would be a big drain. It's possible that Google decided it wasn't worth it on the 5.

The only way to know is to look at the source code. have they uploaded the source code for the 5 anywhere?

Besides some touch screen issues on the nexus 7 2013 and a random reboot it seems stable. Most apps feel smoother than Art on kitkat

Why is everyone still calling it Android L? :D

(PS - I'm still calling it that too)

"It's one of the nicest OEM features you can have on a device, and we wish Google would have built it into the Nexus 6, too." - they don't say outright that it never will be. Maybe it'll still be implemented for the final release? Not sure why they wouldn't have done it already of course, but maybe there is a sliver of hope...

I didn't consider how grave an omission this is until I remembered that the N6 doesn't have a physical home button. So used to my Note lol.

So is this the final release version or just an update to the preview?

Now that my N5 isn't my daily driver, I can handle bugs and such so I'll probably throw this on it to try out. Been excited for the final release!

Nope, not final. More like between a Beta+ and a gold master release.

This makes zero sense. Absolutely none.

I just read that phones which offer this by the OEM have there hardware optimized for the feature by being able to power the digitizer and display independently of one another.

Disappointed. This is an easy fix IMO, but not much I can do about it. I was really hoping I could use it on my Nexus 5. Until then I've been using an app called Gravity Screen. Haven't had to use my power button since I installed it. Might want to check it out if interested in the auto-wake feature.

I'd love to use it but not interested in the battery drain. Here is the source of the explanation: http://www.reddit.com/r/Nexus5/comments/2ifrie/double_tap_to_wake/

I've noticed some differences between Nexus 7 image and Nexus 9 videos.

- Nexus 7 still doesn't have the transparent navigation bar below the screen.
- Nexus 7 still has the old app drawer and animation. (Black background)

Does anyone know why that is?

You need to install the Google Now launcher for them to behave/look the same.

Nexus 7 still includes the AOSP launcher.
