Anyone have any feedback on how iOS 5 runs on a 3GS? I'm hesitant about updating. I want the features, but I plan on upgrading to a 4S probably in December, so I'm wondering if I should just wait. My 3GS already goes considerably slower than when it was out of the box so I'm nervous iOS 5 will make it unbearably slow...

I'm downloading from apple's servers since my iTunes download keeps timing out, and it's telling me 12 hours.

How are some of these download times even possible? I had to download twice 2 hours after it was released and each time took 12 minutes.
My downloads were quick, it's the freakin' backing up that's taking all night. I just don't get it.

And no doubt we're looking at another 3 hours of restore time. K-ripes.

So far my 3GS is running fine, no lag or speed problems... but you might want to wait a day or 10 until the fever dies down and the server traffic lightens up a bit.

Otherwise your in for a long night.

at this rate, with

2 iphones
2 ipads
1 ipod touch
1 mac
1 apple tv

I should just call in sick for the rest of the week to get this all done.

And ive got very fast cable internet. Not acceptable Apple

Sorry - I can't imagine that Apple expects each person to have 5 iOS devices (and multiples of the same device, no less!) Boo hoo!

Plus, the download will be quicker tomorrow and through the rest of the week.

Please quiet down.

My 3GS seems speedier with IOS 5. I only have 16g so, my already crammed iPhone only has 2.9g of free space left after the install with associated apps. I pre ordered the 32g 4S but will have to wait a couple of weeks on it. Till then I'll be satisfied with my 3 GS with IOS 5 ;)

I think that's EXACTLY what they hope for and expect! They want as many iOS devices as they can get into your house.

Having that many devices isn't that far fetched. We are in the same boat but maybe just slightly more patient. I usually upgrade one or two devices early because I enjoy to, then wait to upgrade the others when the dust settles.

Wow I'm surprised at the times you guys are reporting. Mine said 2 hours, and 2 hours was all it took. Enjoying iOS 5 on my 3GS. Can't wait for my 4S to arrive on Friday!

Congrats! I waited on the fence so now I have to wait 2 weeks on the 4S I preordered today. But I am pleased with the IOS 5 upgrade on my 3 GS. Just wish I had opted for the 32g when I first got it. Lesson learned, getting 32g on the 4S.

Yeah my backup time is taking forever. Download was in about 10 mins. Anyone else having this issue?
