what wifi cards did people go with?

I'm upgrading a 24in 7.1 imac, I'm staying on El Capitan but I want a better wireless card (already did cpu and second hdd/ssd + 6gig ram).

dont know much about wifi cards, just looking for a good cheap upgrade

the card we are swapping to is no better than the existing one.

But the replacement is compatible with sierra and high sierra.

Hi guys.
As my MacBook Pro (2015 latest with normal usb) is on screen replacement due to staingate, had to get dust of my old iMac.
I already had replaced hdd with 240gb ssd some time ago and now I replaced CPU from t7700 to t9300 and installed High Sierra.
Everything works great just wifi have issue, so until I solve found some usb wifi that works.

Please what wifi cards are supported did anyone tried BCM94322 and it works 100%?

Thank's, will order it now and hope it will come soon.

Btw, anyone had troubles with replace of cdrom with 2nd hdd?
Got some cheap enclosure from ebay that i used and got system hanging and randomly disconnecting drive.

I got a bay adaptor but not fitted it yet.

I will soon.
I got an ebay drive adaptor too.

maybe the sata for the optical is broken?

Tested on other computer, this enclosure for 2nd drive I got is low quality and failing.
Ordered new one maybe will have more luck :D

I recently found this thread and wanted to breath some old life into my Mid-2007 iMac. I decided to upgrade the CPU to a T9500 as well as installing a Sandisk SSD I had laying around.

The results are fantastic. I've currently installed macOS 10.11.16, but there's no support for the iCloud folder documents sync, which is annoying. Here's the before and after benchmarks:

Is the macOS Sierra patcher tool easy to use? I'd like the iCloud folder to sync but not sure if it's worth the effort of an OS upgrade that disables USB ports/slightly broken.

It was super easy to do. I haven’t had any problems with non-working USB ports and I’ve only had one issue with an Apple upgrade where I had to reset some settings in Onyx but after everything worked great.

Thanks.

You're right, it was a pretty trivial install and I had no issues with the USB.

It's a shame there are no good upgrades available compared to this ATI Radeon HD 2600 Pro 256 MB.

Hi, I'm about to upgrade CPU and wireless card on my mid 2007 iMac to a T9500 and I was wondering what thermal compound you guys use and / or recommend?

Also, the wireless card I have ordered is from OSX WiFI (https://www.osxwifi.com/product/ima...94360cd-802-11-a-b-g-n-ac-with-bluetooth-4-0/). I know I have probably paid way more for a card than I need have, but does anyone have any experience with these kits?

Thanks,

Joe

I used the Artic Silver and have had no issues.

Yes, the stock Airport is not supported with anything newer than 10.11. Putting in a newer one also allows you to use Handoff and Bluetooth 4/LE functions.

I will be doing this upgrade to my 2007 imac soon.

have a x7900 2.8 core2duo extreme on order.
better than my 2.0 core2duo.

i love to tinker.
I would love to get sierra to run on it.
Did you have any problems after the install? I have tried 2 different x7900 and neither will boot. I have it's a c2d 2.0 20" 2007 7,1. I stalled the x7900. And I get nothing. Black screen and 3 diag LEDs.

A small bit of necromancy here - did you get this sorted? I am having an identical issue after swapping a 2007 24" with a T9300 C2D. About to swap the old one back in to see if it fixes it.

EDIT: CPU swap didn't fix, must have busted something in the process.

Open It up again and check all of your connectors. I did this 4 times in one night and didn't have a problem, it's a fairly sturdy machine. I swapped back after trying two different x7900s and gave up. Thought about trying the t9300 but I don't have the motivation. Will end up with a newer Mac to run the newer apps. Womp womp.

Yep. It was the video card seating. I had re-seated it 3 times before I realized the metal bracket behind the heatsink was out of alignment. After redoing everything once again it booted right up. Thanks for the response!

In Jan 2019, I upgraded CPU and Wifi card and haven't had any issues.
  • CPU T9500 2.6GHz
  • Wifi "Apple Airport Extreme BCM94322MC Wireless WIFI Card For All Mac Pro MB988Z/A" from Amazon. It isn't an actual Apple card as advertised, but worked fine.

Great! Getting ready to do mine. Did you also update bluetooth?

@petrasche I updated the wifi/bluetooth, CPU from X7900 to T9300. I also bought a 4GB RAM stick from OWC (why not). Installed a 10k rpm Velociraptor hard disk a few years ago. For a 07, this iMac is pretty quick. I've never had success with AirDrop, but I really don't get worked up over that.

Those are the only two video cards they came with. I believe they use the older MXM-I standard, where the 24" and newer iMacs use the MXM-II/III standard.
