When you already have a good compute GPU, the high throughput and latency of fast NVMe storage is a must for video. Hard disks can't keep with the throughput and latency needs at the same time, a fast scratch NVMe is practically a requirement for removing bottlenecks with video editing.
Thanks so much for your & everyone's help. I installed OC as a test on my back-up system that already has 10.14 on it and everything seemed to work without a hitch. Using VideoProc I was able to see that hardware acceleration was turned on. But: do I need to go back in and re-enable SIP now that OC is installed?

I reccomend you do that. There is no downside to having it enabled only more security.

Thanks. I went ahead & did that and checked the status in Recovery mode (& on my desktop in Mojave) and got the readout in the attached photos. Does that look correct?
