I’d be paying £5 more a month for the 64gb max on the upgrade programme, worth it.

For those who think the upgrade program is a no brainer...

Today Apple is offering $525 in trade for the $999 iPhone X. That makes the total cost for the year for that device $474. The full cost on the upgrade program would have been about $600. Sure that cost includes AppleCare+, but since the iPhone comes with a 1 year warranty anyway, you're really only paying for the + and the tech support.

So, if you don't need tech support after 3 months and are not the type to allow expensive tech to get damaged, you save about $125 by buying the iPhone outright. THIS sounds like the no-brainer to me.

Moreover, you don't take a hit to your credit report EVERY YEAR. While $1,000 in debt might not be much when looking for a mortgage with respect to debt-to-income ratio, the number of hits you have on your record, which can last for 2-3 years, can absolutely impact your credit score. No thanks.

Totally agree. Even if you don’t want to pay the full cost up front, use Apple or your carrier’s 0% financing, then if you decide to upgrade after a year, just pay off the balance prior to upgrading and get the cash from Apple or other preferred trade-in service. There’s a reason Apple makes you buy AppleCare+ as part of the iUP program - they make a lot of money off of it.
