Will I still have all of my apps and the settings in them if I upgrade to 17?

I upgraded my Mini 6 to iPadOS 17 . . Since I mostly use my iPad for general media consumption the update hasn't really made a difference to me. I do have limited appreciation for having interactive widgets, emphasis on limited. Widget implementation on lock screen for example is half baked in my opinion - appreciate the option for landscape mode but why can't the widgets be moved around the screen? Baby steps I guess. I sometimes lack the patience.

I dropped some widgets for Home shortcuts onto my lock screen and home screen again to test out using interactive widgets for controlling things at home. In my opinion Home still sucks - I can control lights and switches but sensor state reporting is still crap, why can't I have individual sensor readouts in a widget to show individual temperature and humidity readouts from various sensors around my house? But i digress, this is not an iPad problem.

ok, thanks
for those of you who have upgraded to 17, how do u like it?

I updated my M1 12.9 & cellular Mini 6 and there weren't any features I was looking forward to but I have not run into any issues. Both devices seem a bit snappier but that's always hard to tell. Battery drain on standby on the Mini 6 seems improved but I need more time on 17 to really say it has changed.

I've had 17 since the first Beta came out. A few issues with Airplay in the first release, other than that I've had no problems with it. The addition of the Health App was a significant advantage of upgrading, for me at any rate.

When it comes to choosing books to buy, I find the Apple Books interface a little more user friendly. When actually reading, not a massive amount of difference, but there are little things, like Apple tells you how many pages left in a chapter (useful if you only have a limited time available to read for instance). And of course it's synced across devices, I was reading on my MacBook last night, my iPad knows where I got to. That's probably the biggest plus.

Unfortunately, my 1st-gen iPad Pro (ML3K2LL/A) doesn't look like it will be getting iPadOS 17. It is a shame because it continues to be perfectly functional.

wow, that is a lot! what are some of your favorite books if u don't mind me asking

I’ve always been a voracious reader – I have at least as many more hardback & paperbacks. I’m retired now so I have more reading time and read a book or more a week.

Hard to say favorite books and I read most all genres so I’ll go wide –

History of all kinds – a ton of books
Military history – I served so lots here
Fiction – Cormac McCarthy is my favorite author
SciFi – original Dune series (I read all in one week), Arthur C. Clarke’s books, Southern Reach Trilogy (Annihilation, etc.), apocalyptic novels (A Canticle for Leibowitz, Earth Abides, World War Z, I Am Legend, The Day of the Triffids, Arrival, books by J. G. Ballard & Margaret Atwood, Silo series by Howey)
Mountaineering, Polar history, general true adventure & travel – I used to climb a lot
Westerns – Lonesome Dove series, True Grit, The Ox-Bow Incident, The Sisters Brothers
Science – cosmology, general science
Horror – Shirley Jackson’s works, Richard Matheson

No reward points, but there's always a selection of free books and even a few free audiobooks avaliable, and others that are discounted.

It’s fine. I have a 3rd gen Air so I can’t even enjoy all the features (like stage manager update).

very Few widgets are actually interactive at this time, and the new Lock Screen backgrounds are underwhelming - the solar system is effectively a static effect with exception of the close-up Rarth one, which shows a change with the time of day.

all in all, I have the same iPad today that I had before 17. But that’s ok. My iPad does everything I need today just like it did last week and the update was free

I updated to iPadOS 17 on my Air 5, and it does great, as I expected it to. I also have a Mini 5, 2019 vintage, which is still on iPadOS 16. I am hesitant to upgrade at this time, even though iPadOS 17 is supported on it. Has anybody reading this post upgraded a 5th Gen Mini to iPadOS 17? If so, how does it perform, and are there any issues?

If it helps, my Air 3 is the oldest of that line supported by 17 and I've noticed zero performance difference

I have 2 mini 5, will probably be updating one of the two and check the difference, my 2018 is doing fine on 17 other than some apps not working.
Having said that the air 3 mentioned above has the same guts as the mini 5, so should be identical.
