If you can afford it, forget the 2009 and get 2012 or 2015 - you won’t need to hack it to work.

No. Not with the same ease of install and level of functionality. There is an entire thread on this. Mojave makes some fundamental design changes under the hood.

So, High Sierra is the way to go then, still? I have some trouble installing it with dosdude1’s stuff. It reboots with that stop sign and I can’t do anything about it.

I can’t boot into recovery mode nor use any other regular USB to boot to.

If you get that stop sign, I would just try another USB drive if you have one. I finally got a Kingston USB to work. I have had that same error with USB drives

I myself tried this on a Macbook Pro mid 2009 , and get an error as in the picture provided. I ran dosdudes High Sierra patcher and followed it to a T
Not sure what to try now. I did a backup, so have no problem fixing that, but would like to get High Sierra working on it.
