Hello,

4.1 or 5.1 is a firmware issue and will not be affected by reinstalling any OS.

As for the original chip, I'd either sell it or keep it as back-up if it's not worth a lot.

i did the same UPGRADE to my mac pro 2009 also!

The people like me that have done this UPGRADE to a 6 core 3.33ghz
what would happen or have to do if you had to do a Clear install of mac os x?
is it going to stay mac pro 5.1 when you do the install?

Should i keep my old 2.66ghz w3520?, i know that if you downgrade 5.1 to 4.1 the mac pro won't boot up!

What should people like me do??? if i need to do a clear install of mac os x?

Thanks
Sean
I have my W3580 up on eBay, and have no intention of going back. I also have a SuperDuper clone of my OS drive on an external backup, so in case of catastrophe, I'll buy a new HDD and clone the OS back to the new drive. That should do the trick.

PC ram in Mac Pro 2010 - Quad 2.8

Will any PC DDR3 ram work in the 2010 mac pro (like not coming from OWC) and does it matter if it is 1066mhz or 1333mhz

Thanks

I've already done a full install after upgrade to 5.1 and it stays there and installs perfectly. The only thing is if you are running SL you will need 6.6.4 to re install as anything earlier will not install. But with osx lion no problem at all.

The best upgrade for the money. Gives a 2009 mac pro a new lease of life!:D
