And a number of people will get the "attempted delivery" trick, where the driver doesn't want to get through all the packages for the day so he lies and says that you're not home when he attempted delivery in order not to have a fail in his metrics. You could be sitting right next to the door and suddenly get an email saying that you were not home. No truck passed by. No note on the door. An outright lie. Nothing you can do but just be prepared for the frustration. It will come the following day.

Usually on UPS packages I can request a hold at UPS CC or change the delivery address by paying a small fee.

But Apple shipments are restricted and won't change delivery addresses due to fraud & thefts.

Hold at customer counter should be allowed after they pass customs.

Signature is another requirement for those in high risk areas.

Miss those pandemic years when the driver would not let you sign for it.

While that is the case but you technically can request a hold for pick up even before the import scan. I was able to request a hold for pick up at UPS CC last year right after the label was created and i was able to pick up my launch day iphone 14 pm launch day at UPS CC.

This year is different, the option for UpS CC / Access Point is disabled. Might have to wait acter import scan. Last I heard is that apple did put in a restriction for this I believe.

Mine departed Anchorage 11:51 pm 09/18 and have yet to receive notification from Apple that the iPhone has shipped

You wont, until it clears customs in Kentucky. THEN Apple will update that. Usually Wednesday or Thursday Apple will update it on their system.

I wonder if Apple tells each delivery service that handles the packages that they are to keep it a secret so no criminal(s) can intercept them from manufacturing warehouse to customers end location.

Not sure how, when everyone knows the dates they release lol

Yes, this has happened to me one year.

UPS driver gave up after 5pm and went home.

UPS said delivery attempted and then never even passed by.
No note, nothing.
I was tracking his van and never came close to the house.

Thanks. I remember something like that last year, it didn't let me hold until day before. Now if I could just remember if I could do the CC or if I had to do one of the Access points.

Maybe he had to pick up the kids before the daycare closed? Maybe he had to be at his second job at 5? Maybe his boss gave him a route that was physically impossible to complete in 8 hours. Especially if you also need to go to the toilet or eat.

Or maybe he was just lazy 🤷‍♂️

Yes, we are all humans but lying on the reason for the non delivery is reprehensible.

Should have been honest and said "Rescheduled" instead of "Attempted Delivery".

In the past, OT would be authorized by the station manager or exec (my friend is a UPS CC operations manager).

Just schedule it to be held at your nearest UPS location and you can pick it up bright and early. I for one always do pick up at an Apple Store as soon as they open. I have no time to be waiting for UPS all day.

Unfortunately apple has place a restriction on UPS holds. So its grayed out. Last i heard is that you need to contact Apple to request the restrictions lifted as they are the shipper. Thank goodness i have my set for in store pick up this Friday

Yeah… probably better telling your boss that you’re too slow for this job and that he should find someone to replace you, than just lying.

Not saying I would not be p****d about being lied to as a customer, but I can also see why you would do it.

This is exactly what happened to me today! My wife and I both had iPhone's coming today and they were out for delivery. We made special arrangements to have someone here at the house AND I printed out Apple's signature release forms (that were in the shipping email) and hung them on the door. At 3:30pm when I was on break at work, I checked the UPS tracking info and it said delivered was attempted, which is a LIE. I have a Ring doorbell and no one came to the door whatsoever and the signature releases were untouched and the person at the house said no UPS truck came.

I called them and talked to the local CC center representative who just said they would be delivered tomorrow. No explanation or admission that they just didn't get through them all (which is what most likely happened).

All of that could have been avoided if Apple would have allowed the package to be held like in past years. Every year for the past 8+ years, I have picked up my phone from the UPS CC, but this year the option was not available. And now because of UPS, I have to make arrangements to have someone home again tomorrow (IF they actually attempt delivery this time).

It is certainly fraud. And since they do not have the GPS data to prove that the driver was there, they'd have no defense. People sue over all kinds of things, but I suppose so far nobody is mad enough to sue them over this, or not that I know of.
