Your bloody mad
(anyway the colonies would only make up the original 13 colonies, not the rest of the US

well I've actually looked at the exchange rate and what he'll save and on the base 24" model it's only approx£250 which is jack really so there's not much point now I don't think.
does anyone think the 2.8ghz is pound for pound worth it over the 2.4ghz model??? mac will be used for flyer design / photo editing / poster design and in the near feature flash design.
thanks
Personally i don't think its worth the extra unless you are doing video encoding.
remember, your also paying for an extra GIG of apple ram, which is rip off... you would be better getting the normal 24" and up the ram to 3/4gb your self for £30-60 respectively.

You do that... Then We, the great Vikings, will retake the new - and now even greater - great brittain afterwords
Ps. Euro plugs are without any doubt the best![]()
As various people have pointed out, by the time you pay VAT, and import duty, you are saving very little. It would be different if it where a laptop, as you could ditch the packaging, load some personalised stuff and just claim you took it out with you.
UK plugs have the advantage, as they are fused. The fuse is there to protect the cable, not the appliance in the case of a fault. With a UK plug you can select your cartridge fuse to suit the appliance, 1A, 3A, 5A, 10A or 13A. However 110 volts is slightly safer in respect of electrocution, Europe and the UK is now supposed to be harmonised to 230V, but I still measure 240v here.
No we don't want the colonies back, if they where part of the Empire again, they'd all want British citizenship and get free health care, pensions, welfare etc. Now Canada, that is a different kettle of fish, they are still moderately civilised (apart from that bunch in Quebec who think they are French) and they aren't quite so loud.
Only funning...honest
bring it legoboy!
unless you have taught pigs to use a sword and shield, then you might just have a chance
Except all your socialized junk is not free. You pay for it with the horrible tax rates you have. And those 6 months wait for a CT scan isnt really a good deal either. Be gone King George. And take your taxes with you.
Meh I pay tax about 21%. I don't know how you think that we have to wait 6 months for scans. My Dad was recently diagnosed with MND, he waited two weeks. They even sent transport for him and returned him home after the scan and other tests, no charge, because he paid his National Insurance. So really everybody has access to free healthcare, well almost free, you still have to pay for your drugs if you are working, a flat charge of £6.25 regardless of the type of drug or medication. If you are unemployed or retired then there is no charge at all. I really can't understand why you want to pay for your own healthcare or take out your own insurance, which might pay if you are lucky. Even though my Dad is now retired, the National Health Service (NHS) provided an electrically operated chair and bed to help him get in/out and maintain some mobility, all free of charge.
We used to have a similar system to the USA before 1946, but people just got ill and died because they could not afford to get the doctor out. Life is so much more important than money. Since nearly all of Europe and Scandinavia has "socialised" healthcare, it seems then to be quite popular. Naturally there are differences between countries and even differences between towns, but thats pretty much true for anything. I do know that I can travel all around Europe and not be too worried about "what if's"
From what I've seen of my travels in the USA, private health is very big business, and like any big money earner they will fight to protect their revenue stream (your health insurance?). But if you are happy with it then that's OK.
Out of interest what are the typical working hours there? and how much paid holiday do you guys get? I do 37.5 hours a week and get 5 weeks paid holiday (not including bank holidays)
I'm a republican (in the true sense) and would dearly love to see our monarchy gone. Oliver Cromwell had it right and the levellers too!
But I digress somewhat and we've wandered miles away from the Mac Mini. It would be nice to see some more powerful graphics capability in there. One thing I have noticed is that when I tried to play Rise of Nations on my Mac Mini using the 10.4 Tiger, it just barely managed, like 4-5fps. But when I tried again using 10.5.1 Leopard, it now manages between 15-25fps which is very playable. Next to try Command and Conquer.
Remember - if your boss gets caught in the airport, he'll have to pay import tax.
There's no real way to avoid this with an iMAc (as you can't claim you took it with you)
I was considering doing this, but bought from the UK. There are lots of topics around discussing the pros and cons. One thing that makes the US prices look less is that there's no (5% - am I right?) tax included in the shown price, whereas here in the UK the 17.5% is already included in the price.

hi guys. it's my first post here on macrumors but i had a question you all might be able to help me with. i'm in the air force and i will be moving to england in late February (going to RAF lakenheath) i will be living off base. can anyone tell me if i will need to adjust my 24" aluminum imac at all beside a plug adaptor? is there a switch i haven't seen to change the voltage? please help me with this because if it will be a 2000 dollar paper weight will just leave it here in the states.
thank you in advance for any help.

There is no import tax on computers, though you are correct there is VAT, but a business would claim this back anyway.
No it isn't worth it.
Also you would likely have to pay sales tax. Even without sales tax (7% in Miami, 8.38% in NYC) it's not worth it really.
24" 2.4 GHz
no sales tax = £904.93
miami sales tax = £968.27
NYC sales tax = £981.75
UK (ex VAT) = £977.87
2.8 GHz
no sales tax = £1156.43
miami sales tax = £1237.3
NYC sales tax = £1253.34
UK (ex VAT) = £1241.70
I'll offer a compromise.
First we move Apple to the east coast, and then we give you California!
How's that?![]()

Delaware sales tax = £904.93
Delaware Sales Tax = £1156.43
We live in Maryland ( 6% Sales Tax ) but we shop in Delaware!
It's only a short drive for us.
.....how about home rule for Scotland!
Now to the whole point of this thread - I think!
I am off to Denver in May and was seriously thinking about buying an iMac 24" and bringing it back to Germany. Lots of interesting info from many of you on the forum. Thanks. But look at this for a price difference -
iMac 24" 2.8 USA Euro equivalent 1,421 (plus 19% German VAT = Euro 1691)
iMac 24" 2.8 Germany Euro 2249
Can anyone advise if this makes sense or not - the importation that is, not the country price differences! Thanks in advance.
