did you end up putting your email back on after deleting it....did u delete it or keep it off all together

I put it back on. The battery life is amazing. I guess there was something wrong with my mail app and I didn't even realize it.

I assume that when that solution works to resolve this battery issue, it's because the email app is constantly checking the email server for new mail regardless of its settings. Whether its on push or to fetch at a set interval, it just constantly checks non stop. So by deleting the accounts altogether and then reinstalling them, the email app gets a fresh command on when you want it to check for mail, thus fixing the problem! Too bad this isn't the only cause for the constant battery drain. Otherwise it would be such an easy fix! Unfortunately I know many people have gotten a replacement phone because the standby time equals use time. It's a bummer because I know that problem existed in ios4 too. Hopefully apple will fix it permanently someday.

I am grateful for all the help. Hopefully apple reads this!

How is your usage doing? I put mine back immediately, checked usage and standby and they were different.

with my phone locked the usage is still going up. i just deleted my icloud/icloud exchange account then did a hard reset and now will see if the usage time still goes up even when lock

also someone mentioned the FB app...do you use that?

right now i deleted my account i'm gonna play with it for a bit then just let it sit....if the usage doesn't go up, then i'll add my icloud account back. if it then starts to go up, i'll committ suicide

----------

okay usage is at 4min and standby is at 12...in a few mins im gonna readd my icloud account, if it remains working, i will then add my .me push email. i had the .me push email but it seems like something nice to have if i don't wanna give out my gmail address to websites where i end up getting spam and ads

and to be honest idk how much i use icloud. i like to back up my contacts on occasion just in case of an emergency....but i'm OCD and that's the main reason i'm so irked about this. THE SERVICE SHOULD JUST WORK PROPERLY lol

No, no Facebook app for me.

Some apps cause it

I and my husband bought our 4s the same day and installed the same apps at the beginning. A few days later my husband installed two more apps and then thr problem started: usage time=standby time, battery draining very quickly. We had exactly the same settings in our iphones (including icloud backup and push) and my phone was fine and my husband's not. So he removed one of the apps, deleted it - and the problem was solved immedietely. A friend had the same app installed and the same problem. Solved after removing the app.
I think there may be several apps which can cause it - i.e. hang in background due to some error - even if you switch them off and log out.
Our faulty app was "Map my ride" (for cyclists) but it can be more apps like that.
So start from removing apps one by one - and checking the results.

i also heard push email can. even if u turn it to fetch some glitch makes it constantly looking to 'push'

I deleted both email accounts and now it works, usage and standby time are not the same. Thanks for this fix.

Almost every single person I know who has that annoying problem, I suggested deleting all email accounts and then re-install them. For almost every instance, this solved their problem. This was a problem on iOS4 too and I'm not sure what causes it or why Apple hasn't figured out a solution. Either way, whenever I notice major battery drain and equal usage and standby times, my first method of troubleshooting is ALWAYS this email method. That's great this solved your problem. It's very frustrating when you can't determine the cause.

Look for the rogue app at /var/preferences/SystemConfiguration/com.apple.AutoWake.plist

You will find the app that is keeping your phone alive there, just read carefully.

com.apple.PowerManagement.plist will tell you the last time your phone slept, could give you a hunch to any particular action that day.

Cheers

REAL SOLUTION!!!!

Dear All,

After going for a couple of weeks with CCCCCRRRAAAPPP Battery life on my IPhone 4 (like 3% an hour with all Apps shut down), after updating to IOS 6 (but I found posts of people having this same issue on IOS 5), and reading through Threads, Forums and Articles on this issue...

Nothing convinced me in a FINAL way!!!

What WORKED is something hidden but simple: go to Settings-->General-->About-->Diagnostic & usage-->Diagnostic & Usage Data. Here look for the latest report on "Low Battery", and if you go into this report, in the Springboard section, you'll find the name of the rogue APP that's sucking your battery life! Once you find this App, delete it and VOILA!

I don't claim to be the only one knowing this, but after going through forums and more forums, came across many "hard reset" and "restore" and "delete email accounts" advice.... Never found this kinda simple advice that would prevent me from loosing all apps, contacts and texts!

Hope this helps all people with this trouble of USAGE=Standby Time!
