For me, it's not even slightly important. In fact, it would be an inconvenience because of the amount of lightning cables we have around the house. Practically nothing any of my family own has USB-C so we'd end up throwing away loads of cables which are perfectly good.

From a usability standpoint, I like lightning. It fits the port easily, securely, I have a ****-ton of them.

From a practicality standard however, I'd definitely prefer USB-C. I'm a one bag traveler. Literally everything other than my iPhone and Airpods takes USB-C. I'd like to just carry two USB-C cables in my bag (one primary and one backup) and be done with it.

Back when I had a Macbook Pro + Google Pixel 4, I always enjoyed being able to unplug the macbook for a minute and top off my phone when I was situated in a conference room. Very minor thing, but it definitely was preferential than having to maintain two types of cables.

As for data transfers over the cable... not an issue for ME. I do everything via the cloud and can't remember the last time I did anything with an iPhone cable other than charge.

For Apple, it’s important, as to comply with EU regulations.

For me personally, it’s not important. I only connect a cable to my iPhone to charge it. Although it’s convenient if I can use the same cable as my other Android devices, it’s not critical. Apple can already enable USB-PD fast charging over lightning, so faster charging is not an advantage of USB-C.

The only reason for me would be that I could just use one cable and power brick for everything. Not necessarily that much more useful at home, but when out and about it's just nice to have one less cable.

Besides, USB-C for me has been holding up fine on my nearly 6 year old MBP. No issues with it at all after 1300 battery cycles. Same with my Android phones.

It would be nice for convenience sake to have just one cable needed for all of your devices. Other than that, it really doesn't make a difference to me.
