Do you think next year's iPhone will be USB-C, replacing Lightning? (after today's iPad event?)

No, the usage model with iPad Pro is different than iPhone.

Hardly anyone wants to connect iPhone to an external monitor or daisy chain USB-C devices.

There are clear advantages of having USB-C on iPad Pro but those those advantages don't carry over to iPhone.

Yeah. What does Apple gain from putting USB-C on iPhone? I would argue they there are only negatives (at least in doing it now).

I am with you on that one. The iOS is too limiting to take the advantage of USB-C port on the iPhone. I am heavily invested in Lighting cables for our iPhones and iPads in the family and will refuse and avoid buying USB-C iPhones (if they happen) for as long as I can. Going from 30-pin to Lighting port was a painful experience, and now going from Lighting to USB-C will be even more painful as we had accumulated and use more devices than before.

I hope not

Not ready to make the leap after accumulating so many lightning cords

Also seems less sound than usb-c with pins and chip in the middle vs pins more subdued and against the bottom of the connector on lightning

Think we will know where it’s heading if we see air pods case to be USB type C then we will know iPhone is next.

Wouldn't mind it Apple went USB C, but Lightning won't be going away in my house for a long time. Magic Mouse/Keyboard, AirPods, iPad 2018, iPad mini 2, iPhones 5C, 6,7,8 still going strong and won't be upgraded in our house for at least 2+ years.

My iPad and 2018 MBPro are now “C”. Hope the iPhones transition soon.

I think Apple will transition to “C” with the new devices.

Agreed, I would be surprised if we don't see USB-C on the 2019 iPhones. If the Mini 5 comes out this spring with USB-C, that would be a reasonable hint for September.

Hopefully they’ll keep the Lightning port on the iPhone, and include a USB-C to Lightning cable and 18w USB-C charger (same as iPad charger) in the box.

This. I think it will be adapted based _if_ Apple decides the USB-C route. Lightning still has a very strong hold on the market, but Apple isn’t afraid of change either.

I would have liked to see USB-C on the 2018 iPhones. Someone at Apple has probably calculated the profit impact of paying the license fees, and that's why we still have the Lightning connector. The only thing I can think of in favor of the Lightning connector from a user's perspective (other than the one-time PITA of replacing cords or getting dongles) is that, for people who carry their phones in their pockets, digging pocket lint out of a USB-C port will probably be very difficult. With the Lightning port it's pretty easy.

Lol that’s not an issue and that’s from a user who had a Note 8 for like 10 months ( launch until May). Sorry I just bought a bunch of cables which cost me around $40 give and take. Yeah I have usb c as well but my AirPods still use it and not buying a new pair. Which then adds to carrying different cables for different things ....

Apple should of gone with USB C from the start not now

I do it regularly with my iPhone 6 with lightning to HDMI dongle to my TV
