I saw this video and remembered Early Intel Macs

TL;DR: Not worth the risk... better to stick with the bundled Apple MagSafe charger for 2008-2017 MBA, 2006-2015 MBP & 2006-2011 MB.

The real issue is that I understand it magsafe 2 power negotiation is completely different from usb-c negotiation. I suppose in theory it might be possible to bridge the two, but given that most companies can't even do usb-c PD negotiation properly, I don't trust them to get that right, the 1-wire negotiation for magsafe 2 correctly, and consider all the edge-cases when interop'ing between them

My dads old 2010 MBA charger broke. I didn't want to invest to a new one (~60€). So, I ordered an USB-C to Magsafe -cable and have been using my Cloudberry 42W charger. The green and orange lights work just like they should and the combo has worked just fine for the second year already. Maybe they negotiate or maybe they don't but I cannot see any difference IRL.
