Since I use the El Capitan Beta (v2), my Keyboard and my mouse is disconnecting regularly (It works fine on my macbook or mini)

And today, my USB-connected audiodevice Scarlet 2i2 (with 2 speakers) wont play any music. When I disconnect the cable and put it back in, it works again, for maybe 1 hour.

What's happening with the keyboard, is very similar to my audiodevice.

Is it a common problem with El Capitan? A workaround maybe? Thanks! :)

I haven't had any issues with my USB ports. I have my Logitech Performance MX plugged into one port on my cMBP and a powered USB 3 hub plugged into the other port. I'm running my Logitech webcam and a Blue Yeti microphone on it and flash drives here and there.

More importantly, I'm running El Capitan via the USB 3 hub with an external SSD.

I've also had some issues with USB ports not registering devices on my MacBook Air. I've found that doing a SMC reset helps for a while.

Are you using an USB-hub? If so try to plug in the audio device in an USB-port on the computer. I notice audio devices sometimes drop out when connected to a hub.

Had the same problem in with my USB audio device on El Capitan. USB hub connected to my Mac Pro. Downgraded to Yosemite and it works flawlessly.

Sankel,

Greetings.

With Dev Beta 4, I have encountered several incidents of intermittent connection in both USB ports of my MBA and eventually they stop working altogether. I was connecting my iPhones and iPads, as well as my digital camera. The workaround would always be reboot. Hopefully, it will be fixed in the next releases.

I had issues with my USB 3 hub when upgrading to PB 2. The ports that had my Bose audio and my mouse plugged into them would not function. The status lights would blink but nothing would work, not even unplugging and plugging back in. Downgrading back to PB 1 would fix the problem so it's definitely something with the PB 2 build. Possibly the USB ports became underpowered or something else with the USB port drivers got messed up.

I had issues with a USB Yeti microphone yesterday. Plugged it in and it was recognized but immediately lost connection after about a second of being plugged in. No issues in public beta 1, just pb 2

Here's a good one... I have an ExpressCard USB 3.0 adapter in my 17" MBP. The card is detected by El Capitan just fine. I can plug a device into the card and "see" it in System Information, but it never mounts (if a drive) or works (mouse).

Same here. USB Yeti while recording in Audition either loses connection, crashes the program or the computer. Using MacBook Pro built in mic in Audition - no problem. Problems only with the USB mic after pb3.

Interesting, have you tried your mouse without your usb hub?

If I plug the mouse directly into one of the MacBook Pro's USB ports it works fine. If I plug the mouse into one of the ports on the USB hub, it disables the mouse along with whatever else is plugged into that section of the hub. The hub is broken down into 3 sections so thankfully it only messes up 3 ports at a time, out of 9 total, when I try to plug it into it. I tried an SMC and PRAM reset and the problem persists. It started on PB2 and continues with PB3. Hopefully the next update will fix it. No big deal either way really since I do have the 2nd USB port on my MacBook Pro free to plug the mouse into until the issue is resolved.

Similar issue, I have an external HDD and card reader which connected via a powered USB 3 hub. The HDD shows under system information, but never mount. Of course, there is nothing in the new disk utility as well. Just can't use it.

Everything works flawlessly when boot into Yosemite.

Interesting. I've been having issues using the USB hub on the Apple Cinema HD Display (the old one). Devices randomly disconnect, which never happened while using Yosemite. I filed a radar (21845377) and Apple closed it as a duplicate (of 21808291). That duplicate was still open when DP5 was released, but is now closed, so hopefully this should be resolved in DP6.

No I'm not using a hub. Directly on the ports of the iMac. It's daily issue. Sometimes a force reboot with documents unsaved. (Yeah, it's beta, I know)

I have been having issues with my external USB drives (connected via a powered USB 3.0 hub) randomly ejecting, sometimes upon wake but also while I am actively using the MBP. This has been occurring with every public 10.11 beta but never happened in Yosemite. I have to shutdown the MBP, cycle the power off and on to the hub, and then cold boot the MBP to remount the drives. I recently went days without noticing my Time Machine drive had dismounted until I saw the last backup was several days prior.

Also, I noticed that El Capitan cuts power to the ports on the USB hub during sleep, whereas I do not believe Yosemite did. (Ex: I charge Apple Watch with the charger connected to the USB hub and then put the MBP to sleep. In 10.11 the Watch stops charging; I believe it continued to draw power and charge under 10.10.)

We were warned about potential usb problems in the seed notes. This is one of the very rough edges developers and public beta testers agree to put up with when installing a beta (as well as a multitude of other bugs and the possibility of having to wipe the whole computer and start again).

But I had some older DPs on a macbook air where nothing would show up on one usb port, but everything was OK on the other one. Since I could get stuff working on one port I didn't worry too much about it.

Now on DP6 everything works OK on both ports again. So it seems they have fixed at least some of the issues with DP6.

I was having some serious problems with USB on DP6 - to the extent that thumb drives wouldn't mount. I looked in /Library/Extensions and found that I had a third party USB driver (gigabit ethernet) installed. The other files in the folder seem to be part of the system install (based upon comparing them with another OS X install). I ran the uninstaller for that, rebooted, and my USB problems resolved.

USB on my iMac has stopped providing power when the computer is sleeping. I used this all the time to charge my FitBit and it has stopped working with El Capitan.

I'm having this same problem as well, except for me it's just when I dock and undock the machine with the 3 in 1 adapter. Doesn't happen all the time, but maybe every other day, then I have to reset the machine or it stops registering my Apple usb keyboard through the usb-c adapter.
