Use an SSD external storage device with USB 3 to USB A/M using an adapter?

I cannot figure out whether or not I can use an SSD external storage device with USB 3 to USB A/M using an adapter of some sort, any help appreciated ( IMac M1 24”)

Yes, you can use it.

USB is fully backward compatible. There are some rare instances with some plugs/controllers where the USB_C connection is not reversible, and you might have to rotate the plug to make it work.

It should work fine.
