I have three -- two 4.4.4 jailbroken and one atv 2 not jailbroken that as of now can only be a tethered jailbreak but i'll sell that one off i guess. I keep discovering more and more stuff on the jail broken ones. Navi-x is amazing. Explored it last night. Literally thousands of movies and tv. Im talking about current stuff like thenew three stooges etc not that i care to watch but its there. So far i mainly been watching hulu and on standard apple tv netflix. Its pretty amazing for the price. I just figured its worth paying a little more on ebay for one already jail broken then screwing around doing it myself to avoid the frustration factor. I can really see eventually dropping my premium cable and just going with the digital package which will save me about $40 a month.

I also have a roku but hardly ever use it now. It was the first streamer i ever bought last year. The only thing it does have in full is amazon prime movies but i can get most of them now on the atv and i will say that the atv especially on netflix has a far better picture than the roku. Also the roku needs resetting sometimes. At the same time there is a lot of junk stuff that is part of a jailbroken atv -- stuf that just constantly buffers or has broken links. But generally its pretty amazing as part of a home entertainment center and for the bedroom. Btw in my opinion the stock atv is pretty boring other than netflix and video blogs. Its only worth it if its jaibroken. Othewise its pretty mundane.

So basically, if I have an ATV 2, but I ran the update to 5.x, it's not worth much at this point? I haven't yet posted it on e-bay, but I was hoping to be able to sell it and use the money to buy an ATV 3... I'm gathering that's not possible with the current software?

I don't jailbreak, so I'm not familiar with all the nuances involved.

There are a couple of types of Jailbreak, Tethered and untethered, you can only do the tethered* one at this point.

Do the update and forget about buying the atv 3. Its essentialky the same. But you probably could get at east $99 for your atv2 which is the price if the atv3.

You think so? I've had my aTV2 on Craigslist for 3 weeks at almost half that price and no hits. Hell, the fact that the stores around here still having stock at $79.99 shows that the demand isn't very high(at least in my area).
