no doubt it was the smell of the nicotine causing the problem. Back when people were allowed to smoke on aeroplanes the stuff got everywhere. We had to clean all the passenger service panels at every service check, absolutely disgusting task.
Happy that you got a good result in the end BOCKS

I am surprised with a user name of cynics you support ozone pollution. Once over 0.05ppm there are health risks.

I think that one can draw a distinction between an ozone generator used as a specifically targeted stench remover, and one used as a long term "pollution" cleaner. The former is a reasonable use, the latter is very questionable. Ozone is highly reactive and breaks down any number of smelly compounds, but you have to get the ozone to the right place, and allow it to disperse and decompose afterwards. It's a little like vacuuming up a small pile of dirt vs waving the suction hose randomly around the room.

Full day of use in today and the smell is gone. Had it up and running in my sons room and you cannot smell anything. If I put my nose on the exhaust vent I barely get a hint of the smell. My wife who has a more sensitive nose than I do cannot smell anything.

This was not what I expected when I told my son I would get him a used imac to learn on. Looking at the bright side he did sit there with me while I tore it down and cleaned it out so nice little bonding time and a good learning experience for him!
Thanks all
