Went to see the Mac Pro this evening. Disappointment- its not a 2012, it is a 2010. Perfect in every way. Reasonably clean on the inside. 2 men slots free for expansion. Keyboard and mouse but no monitor. Covered under Apple Care until November. What to do.

Also had offered to me another 2008 dual 4 core Xeon machine with 12 GB RAM, 2 TB HD, 2 ea 23" LG monitors. Currently running Lion, keyboard and mouse for $1800 asking. The original 2008 with the single monitor is still available as well. Looking at Geekbench in the Everymac comparator, no difference between the 3.2 2012 and the 3.2 2010.

OK Experts, suggest !!

Thanks

If you can swing it get the 2010, it has far more upgrade potential then the 2008 not to mention four fully powered PCiE slots and cheaper ram. I went from a 2008 to a single 2.8 quad core 2010 machine and I could not be happier.

Aside from the AppleCare difference, the 2012 and 2010s are identical. Literally. Apple just took the 2010s and put a "new" sticker on them. That's not an exaggeration, that's exactly what the 2012s are.

Thanks for the excellent information. after looking at various things I am in agreement with both of you. Everymac pretty much says the same thing about the difference between the 2010 and 2012.

Now to negotiate price.........

They also dropped prices, which means that it can be easier to find certain 2012 models if you're trying to upgrade, but yeah, wasn't a substantial update :)

The project I had in mind- my primary justification for buying one of these- proved unworkable and I did not make any purchase. I am fine, thanks very much for asking and for the kind interest....
