It’s now 1:04am and I’ve been surfing, reading articles, watching YouTube videos & all kinds of stuff, for hours.

Completely lost track of time!

And I still believe that the iPad has the best battery life of all Apple products.

Anyway, just thought I’d share.

I agree. I find laptops boring and from an antiquated era. Yes I know there will be a chorus of people to pop up about capabilities etc… but as a product on it’s own terms, I find it indispensable and will probably never go back to a laptop, even with tempting markdown sales on the M1 Pros.

It’s my favourite Apple device! Which iPad do you have?
It's the 11" 2nd generation Pro.

I have the Magic Keyboard, but now really just use the Smart Folio as I have my MacBooks if I want to use a keyboard.

It's still as fast as the day I bought it.

What model do you have?

Any iPhone or MacBook has much better battery life than any iPad. Unless you really like touchscreens or iPad apps then a MBA is lighter than an iPad Pro w/keyboard. iPad Pros need to improve in battery life by enough to beat the MBA or folks with continue to hold onto their current iPads or buy refurb/used ones as the battery life has stayed the same since the 1st gen.

In my experience the battery life on iPads in general have been stellar. No iPhone could compete save for the Pro Max models I think. Not that I’ve tested this myself.

The fact that something else now also has good battery life doesn’t stop me from enjoying my iPad.

Love this post. It truly sounds like you've rediscovered the unquantifiable 'magic' of iPad that's been there right from the start. I can recall that feeling when I first used iPad almost 13 years ago (first gen., UK launch day).

This is what the specification nitpicking etc. doesn't take into account – the power the device has to delight, and the possibilities it creates, even on the least expensive model.

Didn’t say it should but making inaccurate and baseless claims that’s easily proven with basic research shouldn’t be let go as ‘facts’.

haha - i wished my battery life had stayed the same. My 1st generation ipad probably had double the battery life of my Air 2 and my air 3.

still, the ipad is a great product on it‘s own.

So the 4th-gen iPad Pro with an A12Z released in 2020?

Yeah, I feel like the iPad’s total potential is the screen, agreed. I’d use my MacBook if I wanted a keyboard.

Luckily, iOS updates have improved performance-wise. Even if you choose to update it, it’s very likely that that model will stay snappy, although time will tell.

I have the 9.7-inch iPad Pro (almost flawlessly running iOS 12, at least performance-wise), and the iPad Air 5.

Agreed! There a massive uniformity in experience through the entire spectrum of iPads, even going older.

I use my 9.7-inch iPad Pro for the same things I use my Air 5. Older, updated iPads suffer in terms of battery life, but if the user doesn’t care or can circumvent that, there really isn’t too much of a difference in experience, I’d say since the 1st-gen iPad Pro onwards.

i have tested this myself (i own both) and the PM runs circles around it in terms of battery life.

same with my M2 MBP. maybe not a fair comparison, I just staunchly prefer it to my iPP. glad OP is enjoying theirs regardless.

GitHub code spaces+ GitHub copilot for code generation has been great for me. My iPad Pro has been perfect companion for my M1 Max MBP/Linux work station. Can’t beat the portability, and screen.

I'm glad that you're enjoying it! The iPad Pro does have really good battery, it's really "all-day" as advertised. ^-^ How much did you pay for it?
I bought it at launch, so paid full price.

Forgot how much it was?

I had the first iPad Pro (older design) but it developed the bright spot, above the Home Button, so I got my money back.

I’m thinking of buying the new iPad Pro, in 12.9”, but I don’t know if it’s worth it? This one runs perfectly, and does all I need or want. Maybe I’d like the bigger screen, though?

My 2018 ipad Pro with the Magic Keyboard case is lighter than my 2018 MBA.
