That's obviously why, and its a joke.

Even at MSG with 19000 capacity I get no data service. Turning 3G off does NOT solve the problem.

It's an AT&T issue though obv, not an iPhone issue, so complaining about it here won't get us anywhere. That being said AT&T's network is atrocious.

That's only the major problem. I don't have that problem at Patriot games.

But at Red Sox games I encounter the same problem. I think it's because of the high number of phones in the vicinity.

Too bad you wont know what thats like for a few months...GO ANGELS!

FWIW, and I know it's a smaller crowd, but I was able to send & receive anything I wanted while at the Blues-Kings game on Sat. night. Ditto with a Cards game in mid-July. As for the Rams, I have no idea. Frankly, I'm surprised that their general ineptitude didn't cause my iPhone to simply explode yesterday while it was sitting on the coffee table, 20 miles from the Dome.

I used to have season tickets to the Eagles and I can say without any hesitation that I would NEVER bring my iPhone to the Link. It was rare that I didn't leave a game covered in beer -- and I don't drink! I'd be afraid that my iPhone would be covered in beer (or worse).

I have seen many strange occurrences at Eagles games and I would be in constant fear of my precious device.

I get full bars but can't send/recieve SMS/MMS and data when at Rockies and Broncos games.

All the bars mean are the signal strength between you and the nearest Node B/GSM tower. The backhaul is where it's being bottle necked which is rediculous....I was surprised though at a NASCAR event I lost 1xEVDO and my phone dropped to 1xRTT full bars but nada service while the guy next to be had full bars on his iPhone 3G browsing the Internet. Therehad to be like 200,000 people there.

Wow that's intense. That's when you need a dumb phone, I would hate to go to a party and run into some trouble needing to call for a ride only to learn my iPhone had a smashed in screen.

Eagles fans can definitely be intense. The mildest in-the-stands "game" I saw was affectionately dubbed "butt-crack peanut toss." That was played by people in the 10th row using people in the 1st few rows as targets. One of the worst things I saw was someone trying to literally rip a railing out of concrete to throw it in frustration (he almost had it out). I love the Eagles, and I love going to games, but I intentionally don't drink so I can keep my situational awareness of what going on in the stands!

GO EAGLES!!

PHILLIES ARE GONNA CLINCH TONIGHT! CLIFF LEE ON THE MOUND!!

Anyway, I have that problem at the Phillies games too. I'm guessing it's because AT&T just gets overloaded at that specific cell tower so 3G goes down. That's my guess.

Its funny when AT&T is a sponsor and you cant get service for crap at games.

I've never had any issues at Rays games, Bucs games, or any kind of Gator games. maybe the Florida gulf coast area just has good coverage.

and I know, here comes the flak for being a Bucs fan

As one Bucs fan to another, could it be that there just isn't much to report on the games? at least from the Bucs perspective?

Off-topic. Why is it people don't know the bloody difference between "lose" and "loose"?

On-topic. Put thousands of people in a small area all receiving signals atop of all the broadcast signals, stadium work, etc., and signal degradation is pretty much a given.

In my opion cell towers near stadiums should be built to handle a ****ton of capacity there should also be more overlapping of nodes so when one gets full it can handoff to the other. Pretty easy engineering coming from a 16 year old with basic networking knownledge....AT&T has GOT To have some smart guys do they not?

Again it's capacity not signal degradation. The signal is one part of the equation that is not the problem. Backhaul and how much clients a node can handle ARE though.

I have that problem at Quest field, data doesn't work worth a damn. I think its due to the number of phones in the area, they are clogging the tubes.

Whenever I go to Wake football or basketball games, I get full bars but data is extremely slow and most alerts are unavailable. This happens with most iPhone users at sporting events because they are all connected to the same tower. The only way to solve it is to install more towers in the same area, and I doubt AT&T will do that.

No phones anymore.....

Works fine at Yankee Stadium!! :D

Same problem at the Bills game this week. But that game was so boring everyone needed to use their phone all time.

I just moved here from Philly and I had trouble all over the city. Service is much better here in Buffalo. The Bills game is the only time I had any trouble here. Always figured it was just because there are less iPhones here.

It's because the towers you are by can't handle all the traffic. Pathetic really. AT$T is honestly a joke. Either that or the radio on every iPhone is simply ****.

Just so you people know: It's not limited to sports events. I had the same problem least week at The Georgia Dome between the Muse and U2 performances. It did, however, work just fine in the *middle* of the U2 performance.

obviously. any place where A TON of people are using their phones all at roughly the same time is gonna clog the network of the nearest cell tower.

and the Georgia Dome has a roof (hence "dome") which might cause even more interference
